People couldn’t get enough of the addicting reality series The Traitors last year, and it’s scheduled to return this year.
For those unfamiliar, the murder mystery game pitted 22 aspirants against one other in a series of gruelling tasks, dramatic roundtables, and’murders’ as so-called Faithfuls attempted to discover out who the Traitors were among them.
It was a big success, and Aaron Evans, Meryl Williams, and Hannah Byczkowski finally walked away with the £120,000 jackpot.
After months of fans waited with bated breath to see if they’d be able to watch it all again, a second series appears to be on the way.
It will once again be filmed in the summer at the 19th century Ardross Castle, 25 miles north of Inverness.
Host Claudia Winkleman is also on board to helm the series again too, according to The Mirror.
‘These days almost every new series is a reboot of something that’s gone before,’ a source told the publication.
‘So, it’s really nice to try something fresh – and for it to do well.
‘The Traitors got everyone talking, so bringing it back was a no-brainer. Claudia was perfect.’
The show drew 4.6 million viewers by the last episode.
Stephen Lambert, the producer of The Traitors, suggested last month that a second season might be in the works.
He told Ros Atkins on the BBC podcast The Media Show that the “proper sounds” were being made.
Based on a Dutch series, De Verraders, one of the British series’ producers, told Metro.co.uk that they were ‘blown away’ by the format and leaped at the chance to get the rights for a local version.
‘It was so incredible, the setup, and as soon as we got the links to the first series we binged it ourselves, we were mega fans right from the off and we knew that there was something really special here that we could make for a UK audience,’ Sarah Fay said.
‘It’s not often a programme comes along where as producers ourselves we are genuinely fangirling about the show ourselves and so excited to make it.’
She also said that while Claudia first declined the request to host, she agreed two days later after binge-watching the Dutch series.
The Traitors is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
