Netflix has dropped an unorthodox trailer for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series The Watcher, which stars Jennifer Coolidge as a real estate agent.
The thriller centres on married couple Dean (Bobby Cannavale) and Nora Brannock (Naomi Watts) who, after moving into their dream home, receive threatening letters from a terrifying stalker known as The Watcher.
The Glee creator drew inspiration for the limited series from a chilling true story, which is based on events linked to the ‘Watcher’ house in New Jersey.
Purchased by a couple in 2014 for a cool $1.4million (£1.2million), scary letters from ‘The Watcher’ forced them to put the house on the market again in 2017, with the new owner also opening a letter from the stalker, whose identity still remains a mystery.
In The Watcher, The White Lotus actor plays Karen Calhoun, a realtor and a friend of Nora’s, although there is some friction among the pair as the newcomer settles into the idyllic suburb of Westfield.
Rather than teasing the show’s plot, the trailer takes an unconventional approach and instead follows Karen as she tries to flog an expensive home in a real estate advert.
As she guides viewers through the ‘luxurious family residence’, which boasts four bedrooms and five bathrooms, the 61-year-old points out the mansion’s features.

‘Have you ever seen a better replica of marble?’, she coos, before knocking the table to reveal it’s made out of a much less refined material.
Pointing out the proximity of a sideboard to the dining room table, Karen pushes aside a lamp and tells potential homeowners they can position a turkey ‘so you’re only just two feet away from any major piece of meat.’

Moving into the kitchen of 657 Boulevard, Karen stokes a counter surface and reveals it’s not ‘butcher block’ as you would expect, but is in fact ‘made out of hot tub wood.’
Meanwhile, Karen approaches a dump waiter, saying eerily a buyer could ‘fit a person in there.’
At the end of the, er, unusual tour, the price is revealed as $3.2m (£2.76), with Karen also going on to rate the quality of schools in the area as a nine out of 10.
Given the quality of furnishings in the house, we’re not convinced this is the best deal, so let’s hope The Watcher’s characters don’t make a big mistake…
The Watcher will premiere on Netflix later this year.
