The results are in, and the greatest new Netflix programme in 2023 has been named.
Beef, featuring comedian Ali Wong and The Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun, has been selected this year’s greatest watch, beating out fresh seasons of The Crown and Sex Education.
Amy Lau (Wong) and Daniel Cho (Yeun) are complete strangers who go to tremendous measures to get revenge on each other after being involved in a road rage incident.
Beef received positive feedback from fans when it first premiered on Netflix, and now review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has rated it Netflix’s finest offering from 2023.
The show has earned a near-perfect score – 98% – based on its critical reception, with the site’s consensus stating: ‘Ali Wong and Steven Yeun are a diabolically watchable pair of adversaries in Beef, a prime cut comedy that finds the pathos in pettiness.’
However, Beef is far from the only programme that has built up a frenzy among Netflix fans, with many recommending a host of fast-paced and compelling thrillers on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Among them were the Swedish programme A Nearly Normal Family, which many read in one sitting, and the British home invasion thriller Accused, which fans dubbed a “absolute banger.”
Other Netflix programmes on Rotten Tomatoes this year include the LGBTQ+ adolescent romance drama Heartstopper, the Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte, and the eye-opening David Beckham documentary.
Fans of Beef may expect more of the twisted comedy as the show’s creator, Lee Sung Jin, stated he had plans for the following three seasons.

‘I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet,’ he teased.
‘But I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently.’
‘There are a lot of ideas on my end to keep this story going,’ he explained to Rolling Stone.
‘I think should we be blessed with a season two, there’s a lot of ways for Danny and Amy to continue.’
At the time of writing, Netflix has not indicated whether or not Beef had been renewed, so please bless them quickly.
