Tipping Point listeners complimented the show once the first deaf candidate appeared on the show.
The quiz show, which debuted in 2012, is hosted by Ben Shephard and includes three players completing general knowledge questions to win counters that they utilise on a big coin pusher arcade-style machine.
This week, the programme welcomed its first deaf competitor and gave a hearing aid.
Martine, Stewart, and Tom were introduced in the first episode.
After the participants presented themselves to the audience, Ben made a statement, stating, ‘Martine, it’s important noting to our viewers at home that you are deaf, therefore sign language instructor Liam is joining us in the studio.’
Liam was spotted standing next to Ben at his hosting podium, translating every word he spoke to Martine so she could compete.
Audiences that were present expressed their comments on social media.
‘Got Tipping Point on in the background here and it’s very cool of them to have a deaf contestant on and to have a BSL interpreter in the studio giving them the questions as they’re spoken,’ one person posted on X, formerly Twitter.
‘Never seen a TV quiz show do that before but accessibility and inclusion are important.’
‘This is the first time I’ve ever seen a deaf contestant and a signer on the show. As someone who wears hearing aids, well done and hopefully we shall so more of this,’ someone else wrote.
Another added: ‘I’m loving how accessible the show is for everyone. I think that deserves a round of applause, don’t you think?’
Despite her best efforts, Martine was unlucky with the machine and was the first to be eliminated, with Tom finally taking the win.
In 2021, the programme received a visually challenged character named Abigale, as well as her companion Elaine, who was there to assist her.
As Ben said at the time: ‘She’ll be able to advise you via an ear piece as where and when is the best place and time to play your counters.
‘She won’t be able to give you any help with the questions unfortunately, as much as that would be lovely, and our independent adjudicator is sat with her, but she will be assisting you on how things are looking in the machine.’
Tipping Point is streaming on ITVX.
