Tony Adams might have been in breach of the BBC’s strict advertising guidelines during last week’s programme by wearing his own clothing brand, it’s been claimed.
On Saturday night, the Arsenal footballing legend and his professional dance partner Katya Jones performed a Cha-Cha-Cha to the Grandstand theme as part of the broadcaster’s centenary celebrations.
Despite landing at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 19 out of a possible 40, they managed to evade the dance-off, securing their place for the highly-anticipated Halloween Week.
During the VT that documented Tony and Katya’s training for their Grandstand-inspired dance, the former was seen wearing a blue collared shirt and a white round neck T-shirt from his eponymous clothing brand, which he launched in 2019.
According to a show insider, the 56-year-old ‘wasn’t clear on the rules’ and ‘didn’t think he was doing any harm’ by wearing the branded apparel on the TV programme, despite the BBC’s advertising rules.
‘He was just dancing in clothes he feels comfortable in, which just happened to be part of his collection,’ they told The Sun.
‘Strictly bosses are going to have a word with him and ensure he’s in line with their rules for this weekend’s show.’
On the BBC’s website, it states that ‘all advertising must be clearly presented as commercial content, distinct from editorial content’.
‘The nature of an advertising relationship must be transparent so that it is clear to the audience that they are seeing a commercial message. Surreptitious or subliminal advertising is prohibited,’ it outlines.
The logo on the items of clothing from Tony’s range shows a silhouette of himself celebrating during Arsenal’s victory over Everton in 1998, when he scored the final goal in a 4-0 win.
His side ended up winning the Premier League title as a result of the match.
Following Jayde’s exit, Tony paid homage to her on his Instagram Story, writing: ‘God I’m going to miss my co-Adams.
‘It’s been a long time since I’ve got into trouble for laughing too much. I cannot wait to laugh with you again – will miss your enthusiasm, love, honesty and sheer joy @msjaydeadams.’
