Now that we’re safe from the slow coaches, we can report that Sully (Kane Robinson) was shot through a vehicle window by an unknown individual, and viewers have been coming up with conspiracy ideas since the last credits rolled.
Jaq, performed by Jasmine, is a name that is always associated with the filming. Her clothes was a ‘giveaway’ for some viewers, as well as a clear motivation – to keep her family safe while she departs the drug dealer lifestyle. The gunman is dressed in a black jacket that is very similar to one worn by Jaq in prior sequences.
When Jasmine, 28, was questioned directly if Jaq was to blame for Sully’s death, she said, ‘I can’t tell you that.’ Oh, no!
She added to The Guardian: ‘I have no idea. Everybody’s asking. I’m hearing so many conspiracy theories. I like hearing everything, but I’ve no idea.’
Jasmine confessed it was painful to leave Top Boy after appearing in the career-defining role from 2019 to 2023. She is currently the lead in ITV’s four-part psychological thriller Platform 7.
‘I absolutely adore Jaq, too. It was so bittersweet to let her go,’ she shared.
Top Boy director William Stefan Smith previously discussed their last-minute choice to keep the killer’s identity a mystery.
‘The first way we shot the ending, we revealed the killer. That’s what was on the page. But then we had one more take and I was like “Let’s do one where we don’t see the killer”,” he told Still Watching Netflix.
‘We put that in the cut, gave it to Netflix, the execs, Ashley [Walters] and Kane saw it and I think everyone agreed it was just stronger. The idea of not showing the killer, for me, was that it could be anyone because Sully is a person that has so many enemies.
‘The idea that one of these enemies came and shot him, for me, demonstrates what life can be like on the roads. I can understand some people want to know who killed Sully, but I won’t be the one to tell you.’
Top Boy is available to watch on Netflix. Platform 7 will air on ITVX on Thursday 7 December.
