After Freddie Flintoff was involved in a catastrophic collision, Top Gear is thought to be facing even more doubts about when it will return.
In December of last year, it was claimed that the former cricketer was “fortunate to be alive” following an accident while filming the BBC series at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey.
A statement released at the time said: ‘Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately,’ a spokesperson said at the time.
‘He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.’
In January of this year, it was revealed that production for Top Gear had been halted indefinitely while an inquiry into the 45-year-incident old’s was underway.
‘No date has yet been set for the broadcast of series 34 of Top Gear. Filming has been paused as we await the conclusion of the investigation into Freddie’s accident. When the investigation has concluded, a decision will then be taken on when to restart production,’ a spokesperson said.

According to reports, the BBC recently addressed Top Gear contributors, stating that they wanted to film fresh episodes of the show this month.
The message added, according to The Sun: ‘However, we have now pushed filming back. We don’t have a date in mind at the moment.’
A insider told the newspaper that Freddie’s health is of course ‘the priority’, but ‘everyone expected he’d be back on form by now’.
They continued: ‘The show’s already been delayed once so for plans to slip again is a major headache in terms of scheduling and keeping contributors happy.
‘The concern is that individuals who had agreed to labour would be unable to make the revised dates.’
Freddie’s most recent Instagram post came in early December, with many of his followers writing to wish him well in his recovery.
‘Just read you’ve been in an accident filming Top Gear. Hope you’re doing ok and are on the mend,’ one person commented, while another said: ‘Hope you are doing well. Wishing you a speedy recovery.’
Top Gear is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
