Boy George was quizzing Charlene White on her star sign ahead of their entrance into the jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
The contestants were apparently both aware of the rumours swirling around each other ahead of any official cast announcement and took the chance to have a chat about it at the National Television Awards on October 13.
Revealing the conversation, Charlene’s Loose Women co-star Linda Robson said the ‘first thing’ chart-topper George wanted to know was Charlene’s star sign so he could assess their compatibility.
The singer has made it clear he takes great stock in astrology and has been surprised at clashing with the news presenter over cooking duties so far as they are both Cancer, with birthdays between June 22 and July 22.
As lead presenter Christine Lampard brought up their argument, which aired on Tuesday night’s I’m A Celebrity episode, she explained that George had commented: ‘Charlene is a Cancer woman with a beautiful Libra moon that’s compassionate so it’s a real contraction.’
Birds of a Feather actress Linda then shared: ‘When we were at the NTAs, Boy George and Charlene were talking, because they were both rumoured to be going in there, and that’s the first thing that Boy George asked, is what star sign she was.’
‘He was asking beforehand, so he knew that he was going to get on with her because she’s Cancer,’ she added.
‘He did [his research].’
The friction between George and Charlene is already apparent, just days into the new series of I’m A Celeb.
After branding the Loose Women star ‘bossy’ for taking charge of the cooking during Monday night’s episode, the Karma Chameleon singer confronted her ‘challenging’ behaviour in scenes that aired last night.
Saying that he wanted to contribute after she took charge of cooking duties, George said he was ‘going to do everything I can to get stars’ as he wanted ‘to contribute’.
He added: ‘You’re very strong. Listen, you’re such a beautiful contradiction because you’re like tough, and then you’ve got this beautiful side to you. But it’s challenging for me. I have to say it’s challenging for me.’
The 80s music icon then admitted he was ‘such a control freak’, but Charlene denied there was any hierarchy in the camp after he called her ‘such a matriarch’.
‘We are the democracy of the jungle,’ she said, speaking to the cameras in the Bush Telegraph. ‘There is no like leader, we haven’t told everybody what their roles are, we’ve just not done that, kind of fallen into roles.’
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV. I’m A Celebrity continues Wednesday night at 9pm.
