The South Korean survival drama achieved astronomical success following its release on Netflix in September 2021, recently making history with an incredible 14 Emmy nominations.
Starring now award-winning actor Lee Jung-jae, who portrayed the main role of Player 456 Seong Gi-hun, the show pitted cash-strapped contestants against each other in violent reinterpretations of classic playground games.
After shocking viewers and propelling the likes of HoYeon Jung to global fame, the creators of Squid Game are now giving ordinary people the chance to be part of an extraordinary reality series – with a mega money prize.
How to apply to be on Squid Game: The Challenge spin off reality series
Squid Game: The Challenge has been described by Netflix as ‘the biggest reality competition series ever’, hosting the largest cast and offering the biggest cash prize in reality TV history with 456 players competing for $4.56million (£3.9million).
Games will be inspired by those in the real show, as well as some new additions, all designed to test skill, stamina, speed, and strategy.
Recruitment for the series is currently open to English-language speakers from anywhere in the world and you can visit SquidGameCasting.com to apply.
The streaming giant announced on September 17 (Saturday) the final casting call, meaning this is your last chance to put your name forward and fill out the application form.
An eerie teaser video posted to YouTube showed the iconic green tracksuits being ironed and games being assembled, as a mysterious voice over asked: ‘Wanna play a game?’
‘It’s your last chance to join. We’ve already picked hundreds of players from around the world, but there’s still room for more, maybe even you’, the voice continued.
‘The prize up for grabs is $4.56million, but losers will go home empty handed. How will you play the game? Tell us. Time is running out.’
Oh, and in case it wasn’t clear, this reality show isn’t expected to kill anyone like the OG series.
Is there a release date?
Squid Game: The Challenge doesn’t currently have a release date and it might take some time for us to get one, since production hasn’t started and the last contestants are still being recruited.
But, hopefully it won’t be long until we’re gripped once again by the tension of the series.
Is a Squid Game season 2 coming out?
Squid Game season 2 was officially confirmed by Netflix in June 2022, but in May it was revealed that we might have a while to wait.
Sharing an update on the second instalment, director Hwang Dong-hyuk said there were only about three pages’ worth of ideas for the script so far, claiming there wasn’t much he can reveal about the plot at this.
However, he said fans should expect the new series to land in 2023 or 2024.
