Despite speculations that Wednesday will be relocating to another streaming site, the Netflix smash-hit series is sticking put.
The Addams Family spin-off, starring Jenna Ortega as the morose adolescent who is carted off to Nevermore Academy and becomes entangled in a centuries-old mystery, has been a smash sensation since its November premiere.
Quickly rocketing up the watching rankings, it shattered massive Netflix records, and naturally, we’re all waiting for a season two announcement.
However, earlier this week it was claimed that, aside from the fact that Netflix has yet to confirm a second season, it may lose the rights to the series due to the fact that it is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) product.
According to Deadline, competitive streaming provider Amazon and MGM signed a $8.5 billion (£7.06 billion) merger last year, potentially leaving the rights to Wednesday in their hands.
However, IndieWire has managed to allay fears that Wednesday would be postponed, with a source confirming that an agreement between Netflix and MGM has been reached, ensuring that the show will not be moved.
Although Netflix has yet to approve another season, showrunners are already researching sites and planning the next batch of episodes, according to the outlet.
Although we will have to wait to find out whether or not Nevermore will return, Jenna has already expressed her aspirations for the character’s future.
The 20-year-old stated that she would like to see Wednesday be bisexual and that she would support a relationship with her on-screen roommate Enid (Emma Myers), a romance that fans have already expressed interest in seeing.
Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, and Christina Ricci, who played the character in two films in the 1990s, also appear in Wednesday.
Wednesday is streaming on Netflix.
