Summer is winding down, and with it comes more time spent cosied up on our sofas glued to the best new TV shows.
Whether you’re after Ryan Reynolds, a Suits 2.0 or a new genre that’s apparently sprung up – a ‘Covid comedy’ – then there will be an option available for you this week.
So from Netflix to Disney Plus and from gripping drama to side-splitting comedy, here is what to watch this week.
Welcome To Wrexham
Disney Plus

When news broke that Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds and the slightly lesser known but still kind of a big deal actor Rob McElhenney had parachuted into struggling Wrexham football club, it sounded like an April Fool.
But here’s the inevitable documentary series charting the duo’s efforts to revive the fortunes of the ailing club and, give them their due, they seem admirably sincere.
If there’s a happy ending, one day Reynolds (right) will be able to play himself in the movie of the documentary but, as we write, Wrexham lie fifth in the National League. Dreams take time.
Available Friday.
Partner Track
Netflix

If catwalk-ready power-dressing young lawyers are your guilty pleasure, then you’ll be in heaven here with this snappy drama about ambitious legal eagles climbing the ladder at a swanky New York law firm.
Teen Wolf’s Arden Cho stars as Ingrid, a chic rookie trying to break the glass ceiling while torn between two lovers and trying hard not to feel a fool. Best line, ‘I will never measure progress in inches.’
Available from Friday.
Echoes
Netflix

This drama, which starts off with a pair of duplicitous twins who enjoy swapping lives each year, has a lot going for it in the plot department, particularly given that the twins in question are played by the excellent Michelle Monaghan.
Echoes, though, echoes so many genres – thriller, horror, melodrama – that it never decides what it is. However, watching Monaghan swap accents as one twin to hunt down her missing other half might keep you hooked.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan
Play

The crime drama Power gained a loyal fan base and this prequel, with Mekai Curtis as the young Kanan/50 Cent, fleshes out the back story.
It’s season two and Kanan is dipping into the music biz but the family empire is all about drugs. Which way will he turn?

Freevee

If ‘Covid comedy’ becomes a genre, this bawdy offering (left) from Greg Garcia will be to blame. A bunch of jailbirds are released due to Covid-induced staff shortages and form a rob-the-rich gang.
Not subtle, but there are jabs at the chasm between rich and poor.
