It’s not Christmas until the John Lewis annual festive advert drops.
Often tugging at the heartstrings, and featuring a charming, stripped-back song cover, festive fans await the advert’s TV arrival with the same eagerness they await December 25 itself.
Now that Halloween has come and gone and November is finally upon us, people will surely start musing on the date the famed advert is due to drop.
Here’s what we know about it (so far).
When could the John Lewis Christmas advert come out in 2022?
Right now, there’s no announced date for John Lewis & Partners to release their annual Christmas ad.
However, we can predict that the advert may arrive in the first half of November – if the popular department store follows the same pattern it has in previous years.
From 2015 to 2021, John Lewis’s Christmas adverts have all dropped between November 4 and November 15.
Here’s when each ad first aired:
- 2021: Unexpected Guest arrived on November 4
- 2020: Give A Little Love arrived on November 13
- 2019: The Excitable Edgar ad arrived on November 14
- 2018: The Boy & The Piano arrived on November 15
- 2017: Moz The Monster’s ad arrived on November 10
- 2016: Buster The Boxer arrived on November 10
- 2015: The Man On The Moon arrived on November 6
The earliest ad to arrive was last year’s, which was called Unexpected Guest – and featured a ‘space traveller’ called Skye, who didn’t know about Christmas, bonding with a boy named Nathan.
The latest to arrive were the ads launching in 2018, 2019, and 2020, with 2018’s The Boy & The Piano – featuring Sir Elton John – airing as late as November 15.
While past air dates don’t appear to show a particular pattern of the ads arriving earlier or later as the years go by, we can probably expect it’ll arrive in the next couple of weeks.
For now, though, we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled and watch this space.
And be on the lookout for other brands’ 2022 Christmas ads – including Very’s, which began airing in October to some outrage.
