Rise and Fall, the latest reality programme from the producers of The Traitors, has kept fans riveted as its competitors continue their weekly quest for dominance.
The series has 16 participants separated into two groups: Rulers and Grafters, with the former living in the opulent penthouse of a high-rise building and the latter living in the basement and having to perform terrible activities to gain money for the prize pool.
Each competitor has the ability to either ascend to the penthouse or go to the basement, with just one remaining to win the £100,000 prize cash in the end.
Of course, the high-rise structure at the focus of the action is important to the plot – but where exactly is it?
Here’s what you should know…
Where is the Rise and Fall building?
The Rise and Fall building is located in downtown London, namely over St James’ Park tube station near Westminster.
The building is named 55 Broadway, and it houses both the penthouse and the basement – albeit the challenges are shot in a separate studio in another area of London, the location of which has not been revealed.
55 Broadway was built by architect Charles Holden and was built between 1927 and 1929. Upon completion it was the tallest building in London at the time, at 53 metres and 14 stories high.
It’s also got a bit of history attached to it, as it was previously the headquarters of Transport for London.
TFL occupied the building until 2020, when the final teams moved out of it to new headquarters in Stratford, near the Olympic Park.
Can you stay in the Rise and Fall building?
At the moment, you can’t stay in the Rise and Fall building – so even if you do fancy a night in the penthouse, it’s off limits.
However, you might be able to in the future – as the building is in the process of being turned into a hotel.
The company Blue Orchid Hotels is behind the renovation, after getting permission from Westminster City Council for the conversion – with plans for the building to house 526 guest rooms as well as an events venue.
However, it’s not yet known when this might open to the public.
So you’ll just have to keep watching the penthouse on TV for now instead of visiting it…
Rise and Fall continues on Channel 4 tonight at 10pm.
