Season six of Black Mirror is now available on Netflix, featuring a superb ensemble that includes Salma Hayek, Aaron Paul, and Josh Hartnett.
Another well-known person who appeared was John Nettles, whose Bergerac tapes were crucial in unravelling the frightening mystery in Loch Henry.
The second installment of Charlie Brooker’s highly anticipated series follows Davis (Samuel Blenkin) and Pia (Myha’la Herrold), a young couple who come to his rural Scottish homeland to film a nature documentary.
When a strange murder from years ago is revealed to be a horrific truth Davis’ parents have been hiding, the filmmakers find something considerably deeper.
And it’s up to Nettles to figure out what really happened, as Pia discovers the truth dubbed over old Bergerac tapes.
In the episode, Pia and Davis first see Nettles as Jim Bergerac, and she laughs, ‘Hey, that’s your mother’s lover.’
‘Show us his butt!’ she quips, before he closes down: ‘That’s enough of that.’
The theme song reappears later in the show, when the evil recording reveals Davis’ mother Janet (Monica Dolan) as a killer.
Who is John Nettles?
Nettles is a British novelist and actor best known for his role as the principal investigator in the crime drama Bergerac, which aired from 1981 until 1991.
The 79-year-old has appeared on stage, notably with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and on television.
What other movies and TV shows has he been in before?
Though most recognised for his work in Bergerac, Nettles also appeared in 81 episodes of Midsomer Murders as DCI Tom Barnaby between 1997 and 2011.
He also narrated various shows, including Devon and Cornwall and Airport, and portrayed Ray Penvenen in Poldark.
He also appeared as Dr. James Mortimer in the 2002 adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles, a wonderful cameo in Toast of London, and as Ian McKenzie in 14 episodes of A Family At War.
Who else is in the cast of Black Mirror: Loch Henry?
Along with West End stars Samuel and Myha’la, Loch Henry stars Daniel Portman as Stuart and Monica as Janet from The Thief, His Wife, and the Canoe.
Gregor Firth plays Davis’ late father Kenneth, while John Hannah plays Stuart’s father Richard.
Myha’la claimed ahead of the new season’ premiere that she was ignorant of Nettles, despite his arrival being crucial to the startling Loch Henry revelation.
Speaking she said: ‘I was about to look it up, but then I knew that Pia didn’t know what it was, so there’s no reason I should know what it is, so I never looked it up, being intentional about it.’
Samuel added: ‘Somewhere in my memory it sparked something. Davis had a vague awareness of it, I was the same, I had enough.
‘But you know what, John, if you’re out there, thank you, for letting us tell your story.’
