I Kissed A Boy, the BBC’s latest innovative dating programme, has gotten everyone talking.
The first two episodes of the eight-part series debuted on BBCiPlayer on Saturday, May 13, and will air weekly on BBC3 beginning Sunday, May 14 at 9 p.m.
‘Will sparks ignite from the first snog with a stranger, or will there be a kissing catastrophe?’ wonders the synopsis.
‘Get ready for the UK’s first ever gay dating show, where the path to love is never straight,’ they teased. It’s proud, it’s loud… It all begins with a kiss.
Of course, a dating show starring Dannii Minogue is rarely that straightforward, and ‘kiss-offs’ will test the strength of the couples’ relationships while they stay at a luxurious farmhouse.
The broadcaster has promised ‘strong unseen experiences’ ranging from coming out in a strict religious household and negotiating self-acceptance to ‘the challenges of body image in the LGBT dating environment’ and first same sex relationships, in addition to lots of drama and cliffhangers.
As we prepare to witness the romances, here’s all you need to know about the series’ narrator and the show’s romantic setting.
Who narrates I Kissed a Boy?
Layton Williams, who rose to prominence in the West End productions of Billy Elliot The Musical and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, narrates the dating programme.
‘I Kissed A Boy is a brand new dating show and it is the first of its kind here in the UK, which features only boys,’ the 28-year-old said.
‘It is hosted by the iconic Dannii Minogue and I narrate the show. It’s camp, it’s fabulous and it’s got a really good heart to it. There’s a lot of drama too, which we love!
‘It’s gay! It’s unapologetically gay and the first one of its kind in the UK so I’m really honoured and proud to be a part of it.’
Where is I Kissed a boy filmed?
‘So I am so thrilled for a gay dating show to be entering the sea of other dating shows that have existed on TV for years.’
Stating that she’s been ‘a staunch ally of the LGBTQ+ community for as long as I can remember’, Dannii said that her close friends would describe her dream job as ‘Cupid’.
‘So this gives me that flutter-of-love feeling inside too, just to be a part of it,’ she added. ‘Let’s hope there is love, sealed with a kiss!’
The first two episodes of I Kissed A Boy is available to stream on BBC iPlayer, and a new episode premieres Sunday May 21 at 9pm on BBC Three.
