Whoopi Goldberg has publicly pleaded with Dame Maggie Smith to appear in Sister Act 3.
The Ghost actor, 67, delighted fans this year when she confirmed another sequel to the acclaimed comedy Sister Act was indeed on the way.
Now, appearing on The One Show, Whoopi was asked how things are coming along with the project – which she used as an opportunity to beg Dame Maggie to join.
Dame Maggie and Whoopi were co-stars in the first two Sister Act movies, with Harry Potter star Dame Maggie brilliantly portraying the strict Mother Superior of the convent.
Asked by Alex Jones and Gethin Jones if Whoopi had read the script for the film yet, Whoopi confirmed she had – but was slightly cagey about it, adding: ‘It’ll get better, it’ll get tweaked, it will get moved.
She then turned to the camera and, with a serious face, said: ‘But I have to do something.’

‘Maggie Smith. We have this new script. If you will do it, I want you to please do it. I’m not thinking of coming over there, I will come over there.
‘I will shoot whatever you want if you say yes. I love you.’
Alex then jumped in and told Dame Maggie: ‘If you’re watching, email the show, we can pass on the message.’
But Whoopi explained: ‘She’s got my email! She knows what to do!’

Whoopi last appeared as Deloris Wilson – aka Sister Mary Clarence – 27 years ago in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
Speaking all the way back in 2020 on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she revealed she decided to do a sequel as ‘everbody else is doing it.’
‘Everyone seems to be able to do it and I thought those nuns deserve to have another go around and have some fun. We’re writing a script.’
She previously told James Corden on The Late Late Show that she was ‘diligently’ working on trying to ‘get the gang back together’ for Sister Act 3 – a gang which, of course, includes Dame Maggie.
The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One
