Viewers of The View have criticised Whoopi Goldberg for asking co-star Alyssa Farrah Gryphon a very personal question live on TV.
The Ghost actress, 67, was midway through addressing Mitt Romney’s decision not to compete for re-election to the Senate on today’s broadcast of the noon show.
‘The toughest thing, for me, has been to watch the disregard for people,’ she said, before turning to Alyssa with a jaw-dropping segue, questioning: ‘Are you pregnant?’
Clearly shocked by her words, the 34-year-old – who married Justin Griffin in 2021 – quickly replied: ‘No! Oh, my god!
‘You can’t say that when my mother-in-law is here, who has been dying for me to get pregnant!’
As the audience took the moment in, the camera panned over to a frantic producer, while the panelist took the moment in her stride, querying: ‘Why? Do I look pregnant?’
‘Yes, I just got a vibe,’ Whoopi responded, as Alyssa laughed: ‘Please tell me it’s not my tummy.
‘I’m very open to being pregnant soon. I am not blessed to be pregnant yet. We are thinking about it. I’m pretty sure.’
Attempting to backtrack away from the bizarre moment, the Oscar-winner insisted: ‘Forgive me. I see a glow.’
Their fellow colleagues were speechless by the exchange, with Alyssa adding: ‘I’ll take a test when I get home just to be sure.’
Those watching at home were outraged by the film, condemning the Sister Act star for her ‘inappropriate’ line of inquiry.
Flocking to Twitter, one said: ‘I can’t believe she did this love on national TV… Is Whoopi, okay? Alyssa looked MORTIFIED [sic].’
Another yelled: ‘Whoopi asking Alyssa if she’s pregnant out the blue on TV, them cutting to the producer who looks like he’s sending a distress call to the control room, the rest of the panel with their mouths on the ground, Sunny asking if they can take bets on if it’s true [sic].’
‘Whoopi literally goes mid-sentence to Alyssa: “ARE YOU PREGNANT YOU ARE GLOWING!!!!” Say what you want about Alyssa, given her awful views, that was inappropriate,’ a viewer fumed.
‘WTH……Now why would Whoopi embarrass Alyssa like that? Some things shouldn’t be blurred out on live TV. #theview,’ a follower agreed.
‘This is not something you ask on live television in front of an audience. Omg,’ a Twitter user posted.
‘Whoppi was so inappropriate by asking this very personal question [sic],’ a commenter said.

‘This is just awful,’ one person added. Whoopi is a shambles. She would have forced her to declare even if she wasn’t pregnant with that question. She might inquire during the commercial break or before the show begins.
‘Such a disgusting behavior.’
However, Alyssa has no hard feelings about the scenes, as the pair ‘had a good laugh about’ the encounter after filming.
