While James Norton’s villain Tommy Lee Royce is safely imprisoned, Happy Valley fans will understand that they should not be lulled into a false sense of security.
The opening episode of season 3 was explosive, following tenacious sergeant Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) as she investigates a brutal murder after a body washed up in a reservoir while planning for retirement.
But there was also turmoil at home, when a colleague officer informed her that her grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah) had been surreptitiously seeing his psychopath father behind prison.
Catherine is taken aback when it’s revealed that the teenager was joined by a’man or lady,’ with her friend advising her at the end of the episode that she’s ‘not going to like what she hears.’
Fans have already pointed fingers at officers Ann Gallagher (Charlie Murphy) and Daniel Cawood (Karl Davies), as well as Clare Cartwright (Siobhan Finneran) and her boyfriend Neil Ackroyd (Con O’Neill).
However, observant viewers have a different perspective about a brief moment in which an oddly calm Tommy practises Spanish from a book in his cell before looking up at a photo of Ryan.

One Reddit member suspected Tommy was planning to go to Spain and take Ryan with him.
A worried Twitter user believed the same theory, penning: ‘Omg theory. Tommy and Ryan planning to escape to Spain and that’s why Tommy is learning Spanish?????? Am I onto something here?!??’
Hundreds of Happy Valley fans argued the scenario on Facebook, with the majority thinking that Tommy must be preparing a move to Spain with Ryan.

A fan added that they thought Tommy would make a deal with the cops and trade names for freedom in the gangland murder to ensure his release.
However, one watcher thought that while Tommy was hoping to go to Spain, he would do so without his son, adding: ‘Maybe he thinks he’ll get out early for good behaviour and relocate to Spain for a fresh start.’
Who knows what Tommy is up to, but it’s constantly devising some evil scheme.

In more Happy Valley-related news, due to error on the Apple store, fans were able to watch episode 2 ahead of its air.
One watcher wrote: ‘Happy Valley Season 3 Episode 2 is on iTunes! I’m watching it now!! If you don’t wanna wait till next week buy it now b4 they realise & remove it from the store!’
A Reddit user also noticed the mistake and wrote: ‘I was able to purchase and watch episode two on Apple TV. Apple have since removed it this evening.’ (sic)
‘Well worth the £2.50,’ they added.
Happy Valley continues on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday at 9pm.
