Matt Hancock and Seann Walsh made quite the arrival to the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! jungle.
The pair joined the likes of Mike Tindall and Jill Scott in the camp, after Love Island’s Olivia Attwood made an early exit.
After walking into the camp, Mr Hancock got quite the grilling from the likes of Charlene White and Scarlette Douglas, while Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver branded him a ‘brave man’.
And while all the celebs (aside from Owen Warner, who had no clue about the former health secretary’s scandal) were pretty stunned to say the least, Boy George became tearful as he admitted he considered quitting.
Speaking to Scarlette, Boy George shared his thoughts on Mr Hancock’s arrival, revealing he would have been close to quitting after his mum was hospitalised during the pandemic.
He said: ‘You know, beginning of the pandemic my mum was in hospital. I wasn’t allowed to see her.
‘I thought she was going to die. I was tweeting Greenwich hospital going, “Please look after my mum.”
‘I used my name, I was like “Please look after my mum.” And they did, she was fine.’
He continued: ‘I feel like, I don’t want to be sitting here like I’m having fun with him.
‘It’s difficult for me because, you know, had something happened, if my mum had gone, I wouldn’t be here now.
‘I would have gone when he walked in.’
In the Bush Telegraph, Boy George emotionally shed tears as he continued: ‘If I had lost my mum, I would go.
‘And I feel a little bit selfish, you know, just kind of… everyone’s so nice to him and I was like Jesus, what are we going to do?
‘I don’t want to spoil this experience for myself. I’m not good at hiding what I feel. Especially when it’s something so strong.’
Later in the evening, Boy George opted out of having dinner and chose a bit of private time away from the rest of the camp.
‘I don’t really know what to do with my feelings, you know, today was obviously quite emotional for me, I don’t know what it will be like.
‘I don’t know if I want to be here,’ he added.
In June 2021, when Mr Hancock was health secretary and social distancing rules were still in place in an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 across the UK, the politician was caught kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo in CCTV footage.
Both of them were married at the time, with their respective relationships coming to an end shortly after their affair came to light.
Mr Hancock, who resigned as health secretary, later claimed that he lost his job because he fell in ‘love’.
‘That’s something that was completely outside of my control,’ he said on the Diary of a CEO podcast hosted by Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett.
After it was announced Mr Hancock was joining I’m A Celebrity, he was suspended from the Conservative Party, while defending his stint on the ITV series by stressing that he ‘hasn’t lost his marbles’.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
