Will Mellor has revealed that he lost so much weight while competing on Strictly Come Dancing that his watch no longer fit him.
The Coronation Street star narrowly missed out on a spot in last year’s final, but he stated that despite being so difficult, the experience had left him in a good place.
Appearing on Monday’s episode of This Morning, he said: ‘Strictly was mentally and physically the fittest I’ve been in a long time… It was great for me!
‘My watch didn’t fit me! I didn’t know I had chunky wrists but I do! I lost weight everywhere.’
The actor claimed the emotional event, which occurred after his father died in 2020 after a brief cancer struggle, was the ‘hardest’ career task he’d taken on to date.
‘I think it’s probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done, work wise, just because of how consuming it is. You’re in this bubble and once you go into it, you don’t come out of it until you leave the show,’ he explained.

‘The one day off, all you’ll think about is, you’re resting yourself, you’re icing your knees, thinking about starting again tomorrow.’
He described getting back to normal life after his ballroom run as ‘like a breakup’, while he compared the show’s booming introductions as ‘a laxative’.
He added: ‘It was like a breakup, it was really weird! It was a strange feeling, what did I do before? It’s three months, you’re on this ride and it’s so scary.
‘That voiceover, “Dancing the Jive…”, it’s like a laxative. It’s the scariest but the most exhilarating, emotional ride you can go on. You’re out of your comfort zone, I don’t usually do this stuff!’
He’ll be back on the dancefloor for the forthcoming Strictly Live tour, and he’s looking for less pressure without the competitive element while he learns on the job.
‘On tour, what I’m hoping is I’ve done the hard bit, I’ve done all that,’ he said. ‘It was really tough but really rewarding at the same time.’
