The shenanigans at the opulent Sicilian resort in The White Lotus season 2 episode 2 continue but are we any closer to finding out who the dead bodies are?
The elites’ not-so-calm holidays are becoming increasingly tense, with the likes of Harper (Aubrey Plaza) unable to resist making jibes at the vapid Daphne (Meghann Fahy) and her finance bro hubby Cameron (Theo James).
Meanwhile, sex worker Lucia (Simona Tabasco) and wannabe singer pal Mia (Beatrice Grannò) continue to make the most of the five-star hotel’s luxurious facilities, aided by her client Dominic’s (Michael Imperioli) room key.
Dominic’s son Albie (Adam DiMarco) has also become entranced by Tanya’s (Jennifer Coolidge) frustrated PA Portia (Haley Lu Richardson), with the pair going on their first date in a classic Italian trattoria.
Troubled waters seem to lie ahead for Tanya and her uninterested husband Greg (Jon Gries) who makes excuses to leave the stunning town for, um, a work trip to Denver before making a very suspect call.
Here are all the questions we had after watching The White Lotus season 2 episode 2.
What’s really going on in Harper and Ethan’s relationship?
It’s fair to say that Harper is really not living her best life in Sicily and struggling to find common ground with Daphne and Cameron, who are more interested in material pursuits than she is.
In the first two episodes, she has analysed her holiday companions’ relationship endlessly, feigning shock when Daphne says her and Cameron have never fought.
Reflecting on their romance with husband Ethan (Will Sharpe), Aubrey can’t resist implying it’s a sham marriage (which it may well be) before Ethan calls her out for being ‘threatened’ by other people.
After reconciling, Aubrey tries to get amorous with Ethan, who had been previously in the mood, only for him to bat her off with: ‘I’m beat.’
Are Portia and Albie doomed?
It seemed like Portia and Albie had a genuine connection as two young Americans stuck with older vacationers they both disapprove of.
The young pair, much encouraged by Albie’s randy grandfather Bert (F Murray Abraham), head out on a date in a quintessential Taormina Osteria but – is it just us – or is it a little awks?
As they settle down with a glass of red wine, Portia and Albie start to grill each other on what they’re looking for in a prospective partner.
Earnest Albie, who moans that women aren’t attracted to ‘nice guys’ like him, suggests he’s looking for a meaningful romance, while Portia admits she’s just looking for fun and an adventure.
Is the budding relationship about to go very sour?
Will Dominic’s insatiable lust have fatal consequences?
As revealed by an explosive phone call, Dominic’s estranged wife was due to go to The White Lotus with the rest of the fam, but pulled out after finding out about his multiple affairs.
While Dominic claims he wants to clean up his act, before even arriving at the resort he has booked sex worker Lucia, who is waiting for him at the port.
In episode 2, he gives Lucia and her pal Mia access to his room and bar tab as he fails to cancel her services.
After a talking to from his father, Dominic tells Lucia he’s unfortunately no longer looking for sex, before caving instantly with a wild party in his room with the duo in a hot tub.
Is Ethan poised to be Lucia’s next client?
As we’ve already seen, Ethan’s relationship with Harper doesn’t seem to be all it’s cracked up to be, while Lucia is having great fun causing havoc in the hotel.
Could this be the perfect recipe for Ethan to be Lucia’s next client?
Ethan has definitely caught Lucia’s eye as she stops in her tracks when he runs past her in the corridor.
Could the feeling be mutual?
Will Tanya confront Greg about his phone call?
Tanya has one wish for her hols and that is to embody glamourous Italian actress Monica Vitti.
In an extremely rare show of warmth, Greg grants Tanya her desire, telling her he will organise her perfect day, which involves, of course, a rather hairy trip on a Vespa.
The culmination of the romantic day is a restaurant, the same where Albie and Portia are dining, where Greg breaks the news that he wanted to have a special time because he needs to leave the following morning for an important meeting in the US.
Back at their room, Tanya overhears Greg having a sneaky conversation on the balcony, where he tells the other person he ‘loves them’ and that Tanya ‘doesn’t have a clue’ about what’s really going on.
Will Tanya get revenge for the betrayal?
The White Lotus continues on Monday on Now and in the UK and on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday in the US.
