Yellowstone executives have responded to rumours that actor Kevin Costner is leaving the show and would be replaced by Matthew McConaughey.
Yellowstone premiered in 2018, and the previous five seasons have portrayed the narrative of the Dutton family, proprietors of Montana’s largest ranch, led by patriarch John Dutton III (Kevin).
While there are presently two spin-off series, 1883 and 1923, as well as two more on the pipeline, the original series may be coming to an end soon.
Kevin, 68, who just won a Golden Globe for his main role, is apparently leaving the show, while Matthew McConaughey, 53, may be joining another plotline involving the Duttons.
However, while Paramount is attempting to reassure fans, it has not confirmed that Kevin will continue.
‘We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come,’ the network said in a statement to UniLad.
‘Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.’
According to Deadline, Yellowstone creator Sheridan and the Paramount network are also hoping Matthew will lead a ‘franchise extension to continue the Dutton saga’.
According to the tabloid, while it is unclear whether the series would also be based on the Dutton ranch, cast members such as Kelly Reilly, Gil Birmingham, and Luke Kirby might be involved.
Responding to speculation about the How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days star joining the Yellowstone world, a spokeswoman from Paramount merely labelled the actor ‘phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner’.
After starring in Yellowstone for five seasons, Kevin was nominated for a Golden Globe last month, and while he won, floods in Santa Barbara prevented him from presenting the prize in person.
He apologised for being unable to attend the occasion in an Instagram video uploaded before the event.
Yellowstone is streaming on Paramount Plus.
