Season 4 has undoubtedly split even the most devoted fans, but there is one change that has piqued our interest: the golden showers.
After murdering his wife and faking his own death, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) flew to London to start a new life, where he’s been schmoozing with some affluent buddies and strangely becoming a regular at the capital’s premium private member’s bars.
He’s sort of a new man in a new city.
Adam (Luke Gage), one of his new friends, has a unique kink: getting bathed in pee.
While Penn Badgley asked for less sex scenes in You season 4, his co-stars got plenty.
Gage, on the other hand, has stated that the golden shower sequences aren’t only for your enjoyment, but are also an important element of his character development.

‘I always like to look at what we don’t see about characters and what they hide from people, what has led them to that where they feel like they can’t fully show people who they truly are and where that stems from,’ Gage told Digital Spy.
Throughout the series, Adam’s girlfriend Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) finds his fetish but is just disappointed that he hasn’t yet asked her to pee on him.
When she asks, ‘May I wee on you Sir?’ He silences her. He appears to be solely interested in golden showers for the power dynamic, and he does not want to feel ‘above’ her.
That’s understandable.
‘It’s written as a kind of comedic moment in the show, but I actually think it’s a really poignant moment for their relationship because it demonstrates how much Phoebe’s willing to do to get the love that she deserves out of her partner and how far she’s willing to go to prove herself,’ says Keeper, who plays Phoebe.
You season 4 Part 2 is available to stream on Netflix from March 9.
