Autumn/Winter is the perfect time in the UK to get those laser treatments you’ve been eying up booked in… as as you may know, laser procedures require you to protect your skin from the sun afterwards / during your course of treatments. And chance of sunshine in the great British winter would be a fine thing!
IPL Season is officially here. It’s time to reset, refresh and rejuvenate frazzled summer skin – banish sun spots, hyperpigmentation, freckles and sun damage; restoring your skin’s health with Lumecca IPL from InMode (the makers of Morpheus8, Kim Kardashian‘s fav!)

You’re invited to try Lumecca IPL at one of our leading, luxury aesthetic clinics this season – banish hyperpigmentation on the face or body and enjoy clearer, plumped skin (in as little as one session!) It’s the new season skincare reboot to enjoy now, for a clearer complexion in time for Christmas Party Season.
What is Lumecca?
Lumecca is the most powerful IPL (Intense Pulse Laser) device on the market.
During your treatment, an IPL laser delivers wavelengths of light into the affected area of skin. The laser interacts with brown and red pigments, which absorb the light and are destroyed (commonly in one session) leaving you with beautiful, clear skin. Another happy side effect is that the treatment promotes collagen growth, so your skin will be left glowing and plumper post-treatment.
Because of the way Lumecca works, it can also zap away freckles, rosacea and thread veins. It can be performed on the hands and décolletage too, two key age give-away areas if you’ve got hyperpigmentation and sun damage.
And whilst we’re on the topic, what is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation refers to the discolouring of skin, usually in small patches, which can make your skin tone look uneven. “These spots and patches result from hyper/excess melanin production,” InMode Ambassador (and founder of DermaSpa Milton Keynes) Nilam Holmes explains. It can occur anywhere on the body and normally appears as patches of varying sizes – such as freckles, or a cluster of tiny spots that form a patch.
“Hyperpigmentation is usually found nearer to the surface of the skin anywhere on the face and body,” Nilam continues. “It’s predominantly caused by external factors such as sun exposure, skin inflammation and acne and affects men and women equally.”
“Most hyperpigmentation requires clinical treatment,” explains InMode KOL & founder of Perfect Skin Solutions Dr Dev Patel. “My favourite treatment to banish hyperpigmentation has to be Lumecca by InMode. This is considered by many, to be the most powerful and effective IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system in the world, yet has surprisingly little or no downtime for most patients.”
“Just a few sessions of Lumecca can take away five to 20 years of sun damage. Our patients are blown away by the results,” Dr Dev says.
Nilam is a fan too: “I’ve found I can clear hyperpigmentation by at least 90 per cent within just two treatments using the Lumecca system from InMode. Results can be permanent if clients protect themselves from future sun damage.”
How is Lumecca different to other laser treatments?
It all comes down to the power of the laser. With Lumecca you can achieve complete rejuvenation of the skin in as little as one or two treatments, compared to the 4-6 you’d expect with standard IPL.
And how quickly does the hyperpigmentation fade?
Reduced levels of sun damage and a clearer complexion will become apparent just a few days after your first session. Results continue to improve over time; with best results noticeable after 1-2 weeks.
Don’t be alarmed if you initially see a darkening of pigmented spots over the first 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. In the week following your session the treated pigmentation will flake off, leaving you with a more even skin tone.
How does the treatment take?
Lumecca is performed with a handheld, gun-like device with a cooling tip for increased comfort. Generally speaking, your treatment should take less than an hour – and there’s typically no down time. A little redness and a slight warmth to the skin (similar to the feeling of sunburn) are normal straight after your treatment, but these normally subside within a few hours.
Can everyone have Lumecca?
In a word: no. It’s more difficult to treat hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones, as they produce much more melanin. And because IPL treatments tend to cause heat and inflammation, there is a higher risk of increasing hyperpigmentation in these skin types. “I tend to use treatments such as skin peels or micro-needling with Morpheus8 to treat hyperpigmentation in much darker skin tones that can’t be treated with Lumecca,” Nilam explains.
Can Lumecca get rid of freckles?
Freckles are a type of pigmentation and appear when melanin is produced. Freckles are genetic and while not caused by sun exposure, they do show themselves more when skin is exposed to the sun. They can be treated with Lumecca in the same way as hyperpigmentation.
Can Lumecca get rid of hyperpigmentation permanently?
Results are permanent if you take care of your skin properly with SPF. But if you get exposed to too much sun and UV rays, your hyperpigmentation and freckles could reappear. So be sure to apply your SPF daily following treatment (yes you read that right – SPF should be worn everyday, even in the miserable great British autumn / winter we’ve discussed!) to enjoy younger-looking skin for longer!
Kathleen’s Story:
”I first visited Dermaspa for treatment in October 2020. The salon itself was easy to find – just off the M1 motorway but in a lovely, secluded location. It’s a stunning converted farm building that exudes character, warmth, and luxury when you walk in. As I hadn’t been to a salon for many years, I was a little apprehensive, but the staff were so welcoming and professional that I instantly felt at ease.
My consultation was booked with Nilam Holmes, and I had some very fixed ideas of what I thought I needed (fillers and Botox) to improve how I looked. During the consultation, Nilam asked me what bothered me about how I looked and what I wanted to achieve. I explained that I had a lot of age spots and freckles, as I spent a lot of the time in the garden and outdoors. My skin was very dry, dull and crepey… with dark circles around my eyes, and starting to droop around my mouth and jawline. I also had saggy eyelids, crow’s feet and crepey skin on my neck, which was affecting my mental wellbeing / health. I wanted my skin to look firmer, fresher and rejuvenated; reducing the wrinkles and dark circles.
The consultation was very thorough. Nilam explained that for the best results, the treatment she recommended to rejuvenate and improve my skin would be to have a Lumecca IPL laser skin hyperpigmentation treatment. She explained that my freckles and age spots were due to sun damage, and that the Lumecca laser would “evaporate” this damage to give me clearer, brighter, fresher skin. The treatment would also have a tightening effect, to help improve the firmness and texture of my skin. Nilam also advised that I should consider combining Lumecca with CollagenWave and SkinPen Microneedling. Combined, these treatment would increase the collagen in my skin, improve firmness and tighten up my jawline. To my surprise, Nilam also explained that I didn’t need fillers yet as I still had facial volume… and in fact, that fillers might change the shape of my face, not necessarily giving me the results I wanted.
As I had come with preconceived ideas of what I thought I needed to look better, and not having previous experience of technology-led beauty treatments, I was a little sceptical that these “machines” would make a visible difference. However, I trusted in Nilam’s expertise and completely put myself in her hands. I’m so glad I did! I feel so good about myself!”
