Al Pacino has resurfaced his internet-breaking Shrek phone case – and now revealed where it came from.
Last year, the 83-year-old Oscar winner had fans rolling their eyes in surprise after a casual dinner hangout with Aquaman star Jason Momoa, director Julian Schnabel, and other buddies.
The Shrek unveiling took place on this fateful night in April 2022.
Momoa shared a snap of the group at a booth together to Instagram at the time, with the caption: ‘Amazing night @pacegallery Julian Schnabel’s – for ESME’ with Love and Squalor so thankful to enjoy dinner with legends. all my aloha j.’
Fans were quick to spot the phone’s black and green patterned case on the table in front of The Godfather star, who had his headphones plugged in.
Many individuals recognised it as a Shrek phone cover at the time, giving tribute to the iconic DreamWorks animated character voiced by Mike Myers, causing it to trend on Twitter as fans became enthralled with the information.
‘Al Pacino has a Shrek phone case one more reason as to why he’s a legend,’ one wrote at the time, while another simply added: ‘God bless Al Pacino and his Shrek iPhone case.’
That phone case has returned, and we (and Pacino) can confirm that it is unmistakably Shrek-themed.
On Sunday, the star was seen at a London hotel, where he was holding a private meet-and-greet for 20 paying fans sponsored by the Experience With events company.
Pacino, clad in a navy blazer and black shirt with his grey hair brushed back from his face, was questioned in front of a tiny crowd.
On the table next him were a set of glasses, a glass of water, and – yes, his phone in its much-discussed case, replete with white Apple headphones once more.
During the chat, the actor is reported to have discussed writing his memoirs, maintaining his acting career, and travelling to Paris later this week to meet with Johnny Depp.
The phone cover was stated and verified to be a Shrek one at this point, with Pacino adding saying it was a present from his daughter. That’s all there is to it.
We can also presume that the Hollywood heavyweight is as thrilled as the rest of us to learn that Shrek 5 is officially in the works.
DreamWorks Animation creative partner Chris Meledandri confirmed in an early April interview that conversations are underway with original voice actors Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy (who has previously stated that he would say yes in two seconds if asked) to return.
‘We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,’ Meledandri told Variety.
