It was just a matter of time until Gwyneth Paltrow’s weird testimony during the equally bizarre ski trial went viral, and Busy Philipps didn’t waste any time mocking the actress.
The Iron Man actor testified in her lawsuit case on Friday, after a retired doctor accused her of smashing into him at an elite Utah ski resort in 2016.
Paltrow, 50, denies hitting the plaintiff, Terry Sanderson, who is believed to have suffered serious brain damage. The actress is countersuing Sanderson for $1 (81p), claiming he was the one who hit her.
Sanderson originally requested $3 million (£2.4 million) in damages but is now seeking $300,000 (£245,000) after the initial request was denied by a judge.
When asked in court about the ‘losses’ she incurred as a result of the event, Paltrow said, ‘Well, we missed half a day of skiing.’
The statement quickly went viral on social media, with fans mocking the actress, as did her fellow Hollywood star Busy, 43.
The former Cougar Town actress posted a photo with a companion holding drink glasses.
She cheekily captioned the snap: ‘Well, we lost a half day of skiing.’
Twitter users were just as entertained by the trial as Busy, with one reacting: ‘“Well, I lost half a day of skiing…” —Gwyneth Paltrow I mean, this whole “trial” is bat-s**t crazy. Makes me kinda miss the vagina candle and the $12K vibrator.’
Another quipped sarcastically: ‘My heart truly goes out to Gwyneth Paltrow who lost half a day of skiing.’
‘Poor Gwyneth Paltrow she missed half a day of skiing and lost out on so much money on vacation tf tone deaf,’ another chimed in.
One commentator joked: ‘Catching up on Gwyneth Paltrow case and spoiled for choice who to empathise with. Gwyneth lost half a day’s skiing, the plaintiff can no longer enjoy wine tastings. Has the universe experienced such suffering before?!’
Paltrow identified herself as a ‘intermediate’ skier during her testimony last week, and claimed she was aware that if engaged in a crash, skiers were expected to leave their contact information, but that her ski instructor Eric Christiansen had left hers for her.
‘So because I was hit by Mr Sanderson and he was at fault I assume that Eric…who was there at the time, he said I’m going to leave all of your information, because my kids were waiting for me,’ she said.
‘I would not have left the scene without leaving my information and my information was left (by Eric)…subsequently I know that he did. I was not there when it was given.’
She also denied being involved in ‘risky activity’ on the day of the crash.
‘I was not engaging in any risky behaviour. I would not engage in risky behaviour with or without my children being there,’ she said.
The trial continues.
