New information has emerged regarding Freddie Flintoff’s December collision on the Top Gear set.
When the event occurred, the cricketer, 45, was shooting in an open-top car at Surrey’s Dunsfold Aerodrome and was joined in the vehicle by a crew member.
Freddie’s car flipped, and despite wearing a helmet, he was taken to the hospital with shattered ribs and facial injuries.
Of the accident, a source said: ‘The injuries were more severe as the car didn’t have a roof.
‘It was a freak accident and somehow the car flipped over and the two men were dragged along.’
They added to The Sun: ‘Everyone on the scene was shocked by how serious it was and they were very worried about the two men strapped in
‘Very little has been revealed about the accident and bosses are keen to keep a lid on details.’
Because of the collision, it was claimed this month that Top Gear will not return to screens until 2023.
A spokesperson said: ‘No date has yet been set for the broadcast of series 34 of Top Gear. Filming has been paused as we await the conclusion of the investigation into Freddie’s accident.
‘When the investigation has concluded, a decision will then be taken on when to restart production.’
According to Freddie’s friends, the TV celebrity is reconsidering his return to the BBC automotive programme, which was formerly presented by Jeremy Clarkson.
According to his friends, the collision left him ‘psychologically traumatised,’ making him unsure about resuming the gig.
Meanwhile, the athlete’s son, Corey, 16, stated his father was “fortunate to be alive.”
Both the BBC and the Health and Safety Executive initiated investigations into the event last year.
A statement issued read: ‘Our primary concern is and has been for the welfare of Freddie – as well as the Top Gear team. All health and safety procedures were followed on site and the incident is now being fully investigated, in line with standard policy and practice.’
