After a terrifying explosion while filming, Gladiator 2 team members were allegedly rushed to the hospital.
A big-budget special effects scene on the set of the Sir Ridley Scott movie is said to have gone awry, resulting in a firestorm.
Six factory workers who were engaged in the fire were allegedly brought to the hospital for treatment.
Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington are claimed to have ‘looked on in terror’ as the set burned down.
An investigation is now said to be ongoing, with a broken gas pipe likely to be the source of the horrifying tragedy.
A source told The Sun: ‘It was terrifying — a huge ball of fire flew up and caught several crew members in its path.
‘In years of filming I’ve never seen an accident so scary. Six production staff had to be rushed to hospital for treatment. Hopefully everyone will be OK, but it was a serious accident.
‘Everyone involved, from the lowliest runners to the star names, has been shaken up by this.’
Filming on the movie began in Morocco in May, and while Russell Crowe will not reprise his part, a flashback appearance is anticipated for.
In addition to Paul and Denzel from Normal People, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Connie Nielsen will appear in the sequel.
Paul portrays Lucius, the nephew of Emperor Commodus and the hidden son of Russell’s character Maximus, who was spared by his father in the first film.
Connie reprises her role as Lucius’ mother Lucilla, while Derek Jacobi returns as a Roman senator and Djimon Hounsou returns as a former gladiator and Maximus’ buddy.
Aside from Russell, Connie, Derek, and Djimon, the first film also stars Joaquin Phoenix and, in his final performance, the late Oliver Reed.
Sir Ridley Scott’s famous movie generated a record £460 million at the box office and also won five Academy Awards, including best picture and best actor for Crowe, as well as a slew of other awards including Baftas and Golden Globes.
Russell featured in Gladiator as a former Roman general who was sold into slavery before pursuing vengeance on the ruler who slaughtered his family.
