Patrick Dempsey has stated that his hair came out during filming the forthcoming Ferrari film, which will hit theatres after Christmas.
The 57-year-old American actor plays Italian racing driver Piero Taruffi in the racing biography, which depicts how Ferrari avoided bankruptcy.
Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz will play Enzo and Laura Ferrari in Michael Mann’s film, which will examine their tumultuous marriage.
Making large films isn’t without complications, and Patrick Dempsey has admitted to paying a high price during filming for the project last year.
‘I should have had a wig because we dyed my hair and it started falling out because of the helmet I had on,’ he admitted, giving backstage details.
‘They dyed my hair so much that towards the end of the shoot, I had this monk halo [and] all the hair was gone!’ he relayed to Radio Times.
The Grey’s Anatomy actor, who has also appeared in the Bridget Jones and Transformers films, is an avid race car driver.
Despite feeling at ease behind the wheel of fast vehicles, his time on set at Ferrari was hampered by helmet issues, which resulted in scorching.
‘We had one week [in which] my scalp was just blistered because we had burned it, and then we finally got [the look of Piero Taruffi] right.’
After winning the 1957 Mille Miglia, a near-1,000-mile race in Italy, Taruffi is credited with turning around the Ferrari business.
After Alfonso de Portago, a Spanish driver, crashed his car during the Mille, killing himself and eleven people, he retired from racing at the age of 50.
Last month, Dempsey was named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, defeating former winners Paul Rudd and Chris Evans.
However, after receiving the prize, many people on social media expressed amazement that they didn’t know who he was.
Many people were curious in Dempsey’s background as an actor and sex symbol, and some even googled his name to learn more about him.
Questioning Patrick’s relevance in 2023, one X (formerly Twitter) user said: ‘This is not anti-Patrick Dempsey, it’s just like, is he in the zeitgeist even?’
