As she cradles her newborn daughter, Kate Ferdinand reflects on her loss one year ago today.
The actress, 32, gave birth to her second child with Rio Ferdinand in early July, a sister to Cree, three, and Rio’s children from his marriage to Rebecca Ellison, Lorenz, Tate, and Tia.
Just days ago, she announced the new arrival to their family and revealed her gorgeous name, writing: ‘Shae Ferdinand 🤍 10.7.23 Our strong little girl 🤍.’
Shae was born a year after the former Towie star announced she had suffered a miscarriage, learning the news at their 12-week scan and being left ‘devastated & heartbroken.’
Kate has recently remembered that devastating loss while celebrating the birth of her baby.
Kate wrote: ‘22.7.22’ in a stunning photo of herself in bed with her baby girl, kissing the top of her head as she sleeps.
‘This day last year we went for our 12 week scan and realised I’d had a miscarriage. The pain was numbing I honestly didn’t know how I’d cope.
‘22.7.23. I’m feeding my beautiful 12 day old baby girl Shae.’
‘Although I’m tired & hormonal as I sit here now I couldn’t be more grateful, feeling so lucky, what a special gift new life is, the most precious ever. Thank you universe.’
She finished by writing: ‘So much can change in a year, for anyone who may be struggling try & hold on to the hope.’
Fans and friends of Kate flooded to the comment section to show their support, with influencer Mrs Hinch sending love, and Georgia Kousoulou saying she ‘needed this today’.
Kate had revealed the devastating news with fans last year with an image of herself in hospital, saying: ‘The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because our baby had no heartbeat in our 12 week scan and I had to undergo surgery.
‘We were so excited & planning a space for our new baby in our family, we just couldn’t wait to share our news with you all, but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn’t go as we plan.
‘So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken. But couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home.’
Kate and Rio began dating in early 2017 and made their relationship Instagram public in the summer of that year.
The former Manchester United footballer proposed the next year while on vacation in Abu Dhabi with his children.
They ultimately married in September 2019 and are expecting their first child in December 2020.
