Kate Garraway had a humiliating start to the day when a Classic FM radio DJ inadvertently walked in on her on the toilet.
On Wednesday, the broadcaster decided to arrive more earlier than normal to the Smooth Radio studios, where she delivers a daily show, to catch up on admin before the show went live on-air.
She did, however, fall asleep and, upon waking up, proceeded to the restroom, which is shared with other Global Radio stations. Unfortunately, Kate, 56, neglected to shut the door behind her, and Classic FM announcer Alexander Armstrong, 53, inadvertently walked in on the celebrity in a vulnerable position.
Recalling the awkward moment on her radio show, the Good Morning Britain star said: ‘I’ve had quite the morning! Got in super early to do some work before coming on air to do the show on Smooth and my laptop needed an update.
‘You know those annoying updates that you can’t avoid?
‘I thought I’d just close my eyes for a few seconds while it does that. Next thing I know, it’s hours later.’

With the horror still etched in her memory, she continued: ‘I get up, rushed to the loo to wake myself up. Sitting there in a sleepy state, I forgot to lock the door! Then Alexander Armstrong from Classic FM bursts in. “Oh my god, Kate. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry!”
‘Oh it was toe-curling! I haven’t faced him yet – he’s still on air. I was so embarrassed!’
Alexander, 53, has yet to address the gaffe, although he’s presumably still licking his wounds.
No doubt Kate welcomed the joke in the midst of the uproar surrounding ITV, which broadcasts GMB, and the allegations of a poisonous workplace that have arisen following Phillip Schofield‘s resignation from This Morning.
The presenter is also caring for her husband Derek Draper, who has been ill since contracting Covid in 2020. He was in a coma in the hospital until being released many months later, and he now receives round-the-clock care at his home with Kate and their two children, Billy and Darcey.
Derek’s health problems have persisted, and Kate was recently faced with a £716,000 tax penalty after being forced to close down her husband’s firm.
