Katherine Ryan claims she ‘clearly’ regrets liking Andrew Tate before learning about his troubles.
Last month, the comedian and podcaster, 39, raised eyebrows when she claimed on her podcast that she had seen and loved a number of the controversial influencer’s videos.
The episode was released on the same day Tate was arrested in Romania on allegations of sex trafficking, which was really poor timing.
Katherine now says in the current edition of her podcast, Telling Everyone Anything, that she regrets stating she liked him before she understood everything about him.
She also retaliated against people who ‘cancelled’ her for having an opinion that differed from theirs.
‘They were not misogynistic, they were not racist, they were videos that were not in line with what the establishment is telling you and I thought “I like this guy,”‘ she said.
She went on to say that she later realised she had his Twitter account muted and must have come across a tweet of his she wasn’t a fan of previously but ‘forgot.’
Referring to her previous podcast episode where she said he was ‘an a*****e but the videos I saw made sense,’ she said her listeners ‘freaked out’ and told her: ‘You’re as bad as he is.’
‘Who have I trafficked? Almost no-one,’ she said, arguing against the idea that she ‘saw a few videos I didn’t mind and now people think I’m as bad as Andrew Tate.’
The mum-of-three decried the fact that if a celebrity says ‘one thing you don’t like you discard them forever,’ and said that since she made the comment on her previous podcast she has ‘seen many more videos and he is a problem.’
‘Do I regret saying I like Andrew Tate? Obviously. Obviously,’ Katherine said, joking she fell for his more ‘palatable’ videos like ‘a 15-year-old schoolboy, an incel.’
She explained: ‘I thought I liked what he said about freedom, but freedom in Tate’s world I don’t think applies to women at all.’
Tate, who was on Big Brother in 2016 but was evicted early, was arrested on December 30, 2022, along with his brother Tristan and two other people.
According to the news agency, prosecutors said: ‘The four suspects … appear to have created an organised crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialised websites for a cost’.
At the time, it was rumoured that Romanian prosecutors had been granted authorization to keep Tate for 30 days.
Eugen Vidineac, his lawyer, stated that they will fight the imprisonment and that his clients deny all of the allegations levelled against them.
According to Sky, the Tates are scheduled to appear in court today, January 10.
