After months of speculation, Rita Ora has confirmed her marriage to Taika Waititi and released the music video for their new single, You Only Love Me, which features an all-star cast.
After the 32-year-old artist and 47-year-old Taika were sighted last year wearing wedding bands on their left hands, speculation immediately began to swirl that they had secretly tied the knot.
Both parties, however, chose to keep silent amid the rumours and continue their public displays of affection on red carpets and sun-drenched vacations.
With the release of her latest single, however, and an accompanying music video in which she can be seen getting ready for her wedding, Rita has declared that she is “officially off the market.”
The star of Detective Pikachu revealed that she would be keeping her ‘beautiful’ wedding ‘secret,’ but in her new video, she reflects “on what may have been.”
Celebrities such as Kristen Stewart and Lindsay Lohan send video greetings to Rita as she gets ready for her wedding day.
Rita’s sleek, old-school white TV has an appearance from Mean Girls’ Lindsay Lohan, who says, “Hey Rita, congrats on your big day!”
For her part, Kristen says she had the “craziest dream that you were getting married and I wasn’t there.”
They weren’t the only celebrities there, though; Rita also received well-wishes from Sharon Stone, Addison Rae, and Jodie Tuner-Smith, to name a few.
Afterwards, Rita is shown waking up from a dream in which she is attacked by a group of women costumed as if they were her bridesmaids, but in every colour of the rainbow.
Rita’s anxiety that her lover “only loves me when the whiskey’s pouring” is sung over a montage of her getting ready for the wedding and waking up in her wedding dress and veil while the film cuts back and forth between these two points.
Rita, prepared for her wedding, is followed by her faithful bridesmaid as they run screaming from the burning castle, signalling the conclusion of the brightly coloured film.
Obviously, Rita and Taika’s real wedding did not result in flames and helicopter rescues.
She told Heart Breakfast that the concept for the You Only Love Me video came about after rumours of “is she, isn’t she [married]?” spread. I yearned to have a go at it.
‘I wanted to do a wedding that didn’t go to plan… that’s not to say that is actually what happened.’
Rita continued by saying, “Their actual wedding day was lovely.” That’s the way I intended it to turn out, exactly.
It was just right and pleasant. It’s good to have a few things all to myself every once in a while… I’m sorry, but it just isn’t that engaging.
One day, she told her many adoring followers, “I will host a large party.”
