Whether you think it’s gyros or not, Rylan has gone all out and clothed himself in authentic kebab meat from head to toe.
We weren’t expecting this, either. But it occurred.
Worryingly, the 35-year-old host looked pretty handsome in the oh-so-beige outfit, which might be mistaken for a suede tasselled suit, until you are told on good source it is really kebab meat.
Yes, authentic kebab meat. From spitting.
At the very least, if Rylan was hungry, he wouldn’t have far to go, and you wouldn’t have to worry about spilling mayo and oil down your front – that would only make things better.
Does this sound familiar? That’s because his outfit is a bit of a spoof.
That’s correct, think back to 2010, a simpler time all around. But most importantly, it was when Lady Gaga arrived at the MTV Video Music Awards dressed entirely in raw meat.
While nominated for 13 Oscars, Gaga donned the famous costume that became one of the most-discussed (and repulsive) red carpet spectacles of all time.
A year later, the Born This Way singer attended the 2011 Grammys in an egg, but hardly one recalls it.
Aside from his gyros, Rylan dressed as a very stringy pepperoni pizza, emulating Rihanna’s golden cape costume at the 2015 Met Gala.
Pictures of the yellow dress comically evolved into a meme of a takeaway pizza that went popular at the time, and Rylan is now making our fantasies come true with a real-life rendition of this nine years later.
He also donned a little pizza headgear. An immediate classic.
Rylan, a self-proclaimed ‘takeaway aficionado’, has recreated famous red carpet ensembles with a gastronomic twist to commemorate his new job as a judge for Deliveroo’s Restaurant Awards.
The awards include 60 categories, including 50 regional cuisine-focused titles and the Independent Restaurant of the Year honour.
With the Golden Globes starting off the awards season last weekend, we can’t wait to see what the craziest outfits will be – and neither can Rylan, who searches back through his history books for these nostalgic treasures.
Talking to Vogue about her meat dress back in 2021, Lady Gaga remembered how it ‘smelt like meat’.
‘It was thrilling to wear,’ she said. ‘There’s a corset under [it] but the corset was sewn to the meat. So this is actually a garment. They didn’t just drape meat over me and cross their fingers.’
Some animal rights organisations were critical of the look, with Peta calling it ‘offensive’ – but Gaga stated in a post-show interview with Ellen DeGeneres that no offence was intended, and the outfit was a protest against the US military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, which prohibited service members from disclosing their sexual identity.
‘For me this evening it’s [saying], “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones”,’ she said.
This comes after Rylan was assaulted by a bat in some really surprising footage released earlier this week.
Fans were in stitches when the former X Factor finalist described how he opened his front door and a bat swooped in, landing on his palm.
‘Now, it’s snowing – has anyone got any bat expertise?’ he asked, totally baffled and in a state of shock.
‘Is that normal? When it’s snowing? Because it has flown and landed on my hand. There. It’s landed on me and then gone!
‘Can someone please tell me if that’s normal behaviour? Because I don’t think that’s normal for the bat. I’ve already got a [pet] pheasant. I don’t need this! So can someone tell me, please?’
We’d love to be a fly – or bat – on the wall in Rylan’s daily shenanigans, because there’s never a boring moment.
Voting for the awards is now open (closing Sunday 21 January at 23.39) via the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards website.
