Shane MacGowan’s wife has provided an update on her husband’s condition.
The Pogues singer, 65, has had a series of health concerns in recent months, including being hospitalised during Christmas and New Year’s with the uncommon brain ailment encephalitis.
Shane was brought to the hospital for emergency treatment for encephalitis, a life-threatening illness that causes the brain to enlarge and has the potential to cause loss of mobility and difficulties speaking.
He was then taken to critical care in June of this year for unclear reasons.
Shane, thankfully, has been transferred to a hospital ward and is on the mend.
Shane’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, 57, who he married in 2018, shared the news with followers with a really nice selfie.
Shane could be seen in the photo leaning against his beloved wife on his hospital bed.
Shane’s gold tooth was on full display as the pair seemed to be in good spirits and sported wide smiles.
Victoria wrote on Twitter: ‘I just wanted to thank everyone who is sending love and prayers for @ShaneMacGowan we really appreciate it and bless all of you and anyone anywhere who is having health challenges! @poguesofficial.’
In the replies, fans were keen to send their well wishes.
‘Sending love and prayers to you both. Wishing Shane a speedy recovery’, one wrote.
Another wrote: ‘Sending you love and prayers Shane, such an idol of mine’.
Victoria’s statement comes after she published an Instagram post regarding her husband’s health issues last month.
She penned in a caption: ‘There has been a lot of turbulence in my life recently and it’s been very emotional and also scary. But this past few days I have noticed that even though there’s a LOT of fear there is also a huge amount of love and support and incredible blessings.
‘I think that our minds can be VERY resistant to change and to having our lives shaken up and rearranged and we need to be very gentle and patient with ourselves…
‘It’s a challenge to stay present with your feelings. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting me and @shanemacgowanofficial.’
Fans have been kept up to date on all of Shane’s highs and lows, including when he was visited by a very special celebrity.
The one and only Bruce Springsteen paid Shane a visit back in May, welcoming the Fairytale Of New York hitmaker with a huge embrace at his house, which had to have brightened Shane’s day.
Victoria recorded the priceless moment on tape, with Shane staring up in wonder at The Boss.
She tweeted: ‘What an amazing honour and a beautiful experience to get a visit from The Boss!!!
‘Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius!’
