The Spice Girls are considering a reunion for a very special purpose, according to reports.
We’ve all been stung by claims that all five music icons are poised to reunite, whether for the Coronation or Glastonbury or whatever else has fans crossing their fingers and hoping.
While our expectations for a live reunion have been dashed time and again, it now appears that Mel B, Mel C, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell have something else in the works.
According to reports, 26 years after the premiere of the successful film Spice World, another film is in the works, with the girl band in ‘early discussions’ to give their songs to the film.
The new film appears to be a coming-of-age narrative about a Spice Girls super fan, told using some of the Spice Girls’ best singles.
And while the girls themselves, tragically, won’t be appearing in it, they are seemingly working together around the film, described as a ‘gentle, upbeat coming of age story, a jukebox musical.’
A source told The Sun the film is similar to the recent Take That film, Greatest Days, based on the jukebox musical of the same name based on four friends who had their lives changed at a Take That concert.
According to the source, the film ‘will be supported by the band,’ since ‘all five have signed off on the proposal.’
Geri is apparently spearheading the charge in promoting the film and is desperate to make it a success, following the underwhelming Werst End musical Viva Forever, which closed after less than a year in 2013, losing money due to weak ticket sales.
It comes after Ginger Spice Geri denied suggestions of a Spice Girls reunion at Glastonbury 2024 to commemorate the band’s 30th anniversary (yes, 30th, yeah, we are all old).
Geri reiterated that “at some point, there will be something” to commemorate the occasion, but a reunion with all five former members seems doubtful.
Four of the five Spice Girls delighted fans with a reunion tour in 2019, but Posh Spice Victoria, who last performed with the band at the London Olympics in 2012, was not among them.
And an insider told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: ‘Glastonbury is possibly the coolest gig on the planet but Victoria won’t be doing it next year.
‘She has carved herself a career as a fashion designer that she has put blood, sweat and tears into, so singing is something she has to carefully consider.’
They added: ‘She is a different person now. She looks back fondly on her years in the Spice Girls – they were very special for her – so she hasn’t ruled out a celebration, maybe, at some point.’
