No, you haven’t missed Barbie’s official release date – but the first reactions to the film are in, and the findings are encouraging.
Despite the fact that the film will not be released until July 21, movie reviewers and entertainment reporters have been given early access to share their impressions on social media.
Several of the film’s actors dazzled on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling looking every inch the Barbie and Ken.
And, almost immediately after the highly anticipated Mattel film’s debut, first comments from reporters suggested that it lived up to the expectation.
Official evaluations will most certainly be withheld until at least the week of Barbie’s debut, but for now, the brief descriptions on social media will suffice.
‘Barbie is perfection,’ Variety’s Katcy Stephan wrote. ‘Greta Gerwig delivers a nuanced commentary on what it means to be a woman.
She continued, saying: ‘[Barbie] is a whimsical, wonderful, and laugh-out-loud funny romp. The entire cast shines, especially Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.’
From the red carpet, Perri Nemiroff from Collider remarked on Twitter: ‘I have seen Barbie. The craftsmanship is incredible. In particular the costumes.’
‘It’s a well-made, bold film with a very strong voice and vision – one that often made me think, how does this movie exist?’ she continued.
Meanwhile, ScreenRant’s Joseph Deckelmeier, said: ‘Barbie caught me off-guard and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s funny, bombastic, and very smart.’
‘Greta Gerwig aims for the fences and hits a home-run. Margot Robbie’s performance is great and Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu are pure entertainment!’
Nemiroff, on the other hand, had qualms, claiming that the picture wasn’t exactly the home run they were ‘hoping for,’ and that several minor characters were underserved.
One of the film’s major stars, actor Michael Cera, stated behind the scenes that he was not included to the cast’s WhatsApp groups throughout filming.
His apology for being left out of the group, on the other hand, was humorous and quite sweet: ‘I don’t have an iPhone myself. ‘I’ve got a flip phone.’
Barbie is out in UK cinemas on Friday, July 21.
