The first trailer for the upcoming third Creed installment packs an emotional punch as friends become foes and take to the ring to hash out old grudges.
The upcoming sequel is the ninth overall in the Rocky franchise, with Michael B Jordan treating fans to a first look of him in character as Adonis ‘Donnie’ Creed earlier this week.
For the first time, Black Panther actor Jordan will be stepping behind the camera, as he directs and stars in the upcoming drama.
The first trailer for the film shows Adonis face off against an old friend-turned foe, Damian ‘Dame’ Anderson, played by Jonathan Majors, after he resurfaces following a lengthy prison sentence.
The film takes place a few years after the events of Creed II, with Adonis enjoying the fruits of his successful career, as well as family life as he and wife Bianca (Tessa Thompson) now have a daughter.
While returning to his car, he is greeted by Damian and invites him to his gym, though the pleasantries don’t last long – Damian feels he deserves the career Adonis has enjoyed.
Posting to social media, Jordan expressed his pride in the upcoming film that will mark his directorial debut.
‘My directorial debut?! That still sounds crazy to say but there’s no film that has been more personal to me and no film I’ve felt more ready to steer,’ the star wrote on Instagram.
‘Excited to share the first trailer for Creed 3. To my cast & crew, thank you for working so hard to continue the legacy of the franchise.’
Jordan and Majors will be joined by Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu, and Phylicia Rashad in the cast.
Tony Bellew will also reprise his role as ‘Pretty’ Rick Conlan from the first film.
The film, which is co-written by Ryan Coogler, will be the first film in the Rocky franchise not to feature Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa.
Creed 3 will be released in UK cinemas on March 3, 2023.
