Danielle Radcliffe has revealed the strangest thing he’s ever done for a role after ruling out emerging naked from an egg covered in goo for his latest project, Weird.
The Harry Potter actor said shooting scenes for his new film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story has him do the ‘second weirdest thing’ on film during his career.
The 5ft 5in movie star, 33, shared his apprehension at being ‘physically’ right to play the 6ft singer Weird Al, 63, until he realised the film wasn’t going to be sticking to the script.
Throwing accuracy out the window and aiming instead for a tone as wacky as the funny man’s lyrics, Daniel soon settled into his role and embraced the craziness on set.
He told NME about shooting a certain drug trip scene that involved the actor popping out of an egg: ‘I think that scene, coming out of a giant egg while naked, covered in goo, playing the electric guitar, is the second weirdest thing I’ve ever done.’
Moving on to reveal what could possibly take the top spot for weirdest filming moment, Daniel reminisced on shooting with Paul Dano.
‘I think it’s still second to Paul Dano riding me like a jet ski in Swiss Army Man, but it’s those two then clear daylight before anything else.’
Taking on the new role however, wasn’t an easy decision for the celebrated actor.
He shared his reluctance to step into Weird Al’s shoes: ‘I feel like there are people closer to Al, physically.
‘I didn’t get at all what the premise of the film was. Then I started reading the script and realised, oh, naturalism and accuracy is not part of their game.’
Daniel then went on to credit his girlfriend Erin Darke, 38, and her fandom for solidifying his decision in accepting the opportunity saying she had been to three Weird Al concerts and that ‘every road trip or Christmas’ involved a Weirdo Al soundtrack.
