The Deadpool and Wolverine trailer is out, and it’s wild, but one feature in particular has Marvel fans both surprised and excited.
Fans of the superheroes have been clamouring for this union since the release of X-Men Origins Wolverine in 2009, when Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool first appeared on film.
Following the release of Deadpool and Deadpool 2 in 2016 and 2018, respectively, Deadpool and Wolverine began development, with the first trailer released today.
Despite swearing not to reprise his legendary role after Logan, Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine, with Reynolds playing his foul-mouthed foe.
Among the expletives, explosions, narcotics, and hand claws to the genitals, fans were treated to an X-Men-themed easter egg.
Wolverine appears in a slow-motion montage wearing a recognisable sleeveless yellow suit reminiscent of the Marvel comics and X-Men animated series.
Wolverine has never been seen in his famous yellow outfit since Jackman took up the character in 2000 for 20th Century Fox’s live-action X-Men feature, leaving fans ‘losing their minds’ with the current trailer.
‘This feels unreal’, @nightwaynes wrote on X next to a comparison of the live-action and animated version of the characters.
Robert Anthony added: ‘I can’t believe it took nearly 25 years for @RealHughJackman to finally don the comic-book-accurate Wolverine costume, but we finally made it X-Men fans…LFG!!! ❌🔥’
@guyintheskyy said it’s ‘This is by far the best looking comic correct iteration of Wolverine to date,’ while others questioned if we would be seeing his famous mask at some point.

On Reddit, user the-akira-slide wrote: ‘As a little kid in the 90s who grew up on the animated series before I ever touched any comic book: Oh my f****n’ godddddd.’
Fermentedradical agreed, adding: ‘The 90’s kid in me that loves Wolvie more than any other X-Man is screaming. Yaaaaaaaaas.’
Grayman222 even said: ‘I’m hearing the animated series theme in my head right now.’
Ryan shared the news of Wolverine’s appearance in the next Deadpool film in a video last year, which sparked excitement among fans.
The teaser also provided viewers with their first look of villain Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), who is shown walking away from Ant-Man’s gigantic head.
In the Marvel Universe, she is the evil twin of Professor Charles Xavier, portrayed in films by Sir Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, and Harry Lloyd.
It also confirms the return of X-Men characters Azazel (Jason Flemyng) and Lady Deathstrike (Kelly Hu), who have both appeared in prior installments of the franchise.
Wider parallels to the MCU include Deadpool and Wolverine going into a vortex at the conclusion of the trailer, which many believe is tied to Dr Strange.
Deadpool and Wolverine is released in UK cinemas on July 26.
