If anybody is more interested in a Freaky Friday sequel than we are, it is original actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
She co-starred with Lindsay Lohan in the 2003 Disney comedy as an overworked mother who exchanges bodies with her grumpy teenage daughter, requiring both of them to adjust to the other’s life.
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, the actress was in full tease mode at the Producers Guild Awards this weekend.
The Oscar-nominated actress, 64, even stated that it was “about to happen” on Saturday night.
And who are we to argue?
‘It’s going to happen,’ she insisted.
‘Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, “Of course it’s going to happen.” It’s going to happen,’ Curtis repeated, according to Variety.
On February 10, the Halloween star ensured Freaky Friday was on her mind by uploading a beautiful throwback photo of herself and Lohan from the film’s production.
‘It’s Friday. I’m just sayin’! Freaky fingers crossed!’ she wrote in the caption, with Lohan – who has been enjoying a career comeback with her acting re-entry courtesy of Netflix rom-com Falling for Christmas – posting crossed fingers, heart-eyed and raised hands emoji in the comments.eart-eyed, and raised hands emoji.
Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris appeared in the 1976 picture, which was based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name.
Curtis, who won a Sag Award for her role in the Oscar-nominated Everything, Everwhere, All At Once adaptation, was nominated for a Golden Globe for her participation in the remake, which also starred Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon.
It was a huge hit, grossing $160 million (£132.7 million) on a $26 million (£21.5 million) budget, and is one in a series of epic teen movies Lohan did as a young star.
Curtis also mentioned a possible Freaky Friday sequel in November, revealing she and Lohan had discussed it.
‘There is no set date, but we’re discussing it. Individuals are conversing. ‘The proper people are talking,’ she said at the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiere in Los Angeles.
‘I’m 64 in a week, and Lindsay is 36,’ she remarked at the time. [A sequel] lends itself so well. We’re both committed, and the decision isn’t ours to make. It’s up to Disney, and I believe they’re interested, so we’re talking.’
Wouldn’t the majority of people be?
Freaky Friday is available to stream on Disney Plus now.
