Halloween is here, and horror aficionados are in for a treat at the movies this week. Saw X is released in theatres, bringing Jigsaw back to terrorise a new set of victims.
With its focus on John Kramer’s (Tobin Bell) cancer fight – and a trailer that depicts him seeking retribution on renegade physicians who promised him a’miracle cure’ for his disease – the sequel is ready to upend the franchise’s order.
Fans of Saw are already anticipating its release; there has even been some rivalry between the picture and the big screen children’s treat Paw Patrol, mimicking the Barbenheimer mayhem of the summer.
But when does it hit theatres, who is in the cast, and where does it fall in the timeline?
Here’s all you need to know…
When does Saw X come out?
Saw X will be released in UK theatres on Friday, September 29.
The picture is being released on over 300 screens, so if you’re searching for your Saw fix this weekend, you should have no trouble finding a cinema near you that is screening it.
The film is 118 minutes long and has received an 18 classification from the BBFC for intense bloody violence and gore.
What’s the plot of Saw X?
The official synopsis tells us: ‘A sick and desperate John [Kramer] travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable.’
‘Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.’
Saw X is expected to increase the blood and guts quotient in a series already known for its graphic violence, with metro.co.uk reporting that the new picture contains’some of the goriest sequences in the franchise’s history, with one in particular pushing cinemagoers to their limits’.
So, what happens? You’ll have to watch it for yourself to find out, or you can read our complete review for a heads-up.
Who is in the cast of Saw X?
Tobin Bell reprises his role as John Kramer in Saw X, as does Shawnee Smith as Jigsaw’s pupil Amanda Young.
Norwegian actress Synnove Macody Lund, Teen Wolf star Steven Brand, and Sons of Anarchy actor Michael Beach are among others who have joined the franchise.
Where in the Saw franchise does Saw X sit?
This is also the film in which we meet Kramer’s wife, Jill Tuck (Betsy Russell), and see the events that led to John’s transformation from a typical civil engineer into a vindictive killer.
Saw V (2008) sees Hoffman, Kramer’s protegee (Costas Mandylor), continuing the deadly task he started, while Saw VI (2009) shows additional victims as Kramer’s widow Jill joins involved in the carnage.
Saw: The Final Chapter, often known as Saw VII (2010), features the return of Dr Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) from the first Saw film, with the tale seemingly drawing to a close.
However, there are two more films: 2017’s Jigsaw, which is set partially after Kramer’s death and partly decades before, and 2021’s Spiral, which is unofficially regarded as Saw 9, albeit Kramer does not appear.
Saw X will be released in theatres on September 29.
