Nobody does it better than Miriam Margoyles, a British TV and cultural icon who is never hesitant to express herself without filter.
The 82-year-old has appeared on Vogue covers, received Baftas, and played in famous franchises such as Harry Potter, but we won’t be seeing her in Hollywood anytime soon.
Miriam sparked outrage when she recently encouraged Potterheads to abandon their devotion with the Wizarding World, and now she’s targeting Marvel.
An interview from last September has emerged in a popular tweet, in which she confessed she turned down a role in the superhero megahit.
In true Miriam form, she said that she just ‘doesn’t like America’ and declined the studio’s offer of £500,000.
‘They contacted me and said, “We’re doing a story about witches.” I thought, “oh god, not witches again, because I’ve done that with Harry Potter”,’ she began.

‘I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months,’ Miriam continued to Australian outlet News.com.
The Age of Innocence actress lives mostly in London with her girlfriend Heather Sutherland, although they also have residences in Kent, Australia, and Italy.
She continued: ‘So I just said, “Well, I want a million pounds” and they said, “You can have half a million”, and I said, “no, I don’t want to do it”, so it just stopped.’
The character was in Disney Plus’ series Agatha, which has had several titles since its introduction and is based on Scarlet Witch’s adversary Agatha Harkness.
Kathryn Hahn is involved in the production, having played the part in the renowned Wandavision miniseries.
Miriam’s cool decline of the biggest franchise in film currently has impressed fans, as she was declared a ‘queen’.
‘More fool them. Miriam Margolyes is worth every penny,’ Kim Taylor-Forster wrote on X, where praise flooded in for the Call the Midwife star.
‘Miriam Margolyes continues to be the realest one out there,’ added user spicynigel.
‘Miriam Margolyes out her proving she is an Absolute Real One,’ said David Adams, as Brooks praised: ‘Why is she kinda iconic, queen has been popping off lately.’
Some did feel that asking for this much money was big-headed of Miriam, while others said she simply knows her worth.

X user Flcrdluna wrote: ‘I mean, she’s not wrong for this. She’s worked with Martin Scorsese, and she’s a very respected British actress – she has a right to ask for as much money as she wants.’
This response has been the polar opposite of Potterheads’ reaction to her critical statements about the property.
Despite saying she was’very glad’ to be a part of Harry Potter, the Bafta-winning actress revealed she thought fans should be ‘beyond’ it by now because it was ‘for children’.
She told New Zealand public broadcaster 1News: ‘It was 25 years ago and it’s for children. I think it’s for children, but they get stuck in it.’
