Owen Wilson is channelling his inner Bob Ross as he prepares for his latest endeavour, Paint.
The 54-year-old Marley and Me star plays the lead in the new IFC film, which looks to be inspired by the popular presenter and musician.
Owen may be seen in a newly released teaser appearing unrecognisable with a huge afro as he takes on the character of a man obsessed with art and nature.
While his character is named Carl, there are blatant allusions to Ross, with Owen’s character being the number one public TV painter, who paints in the same manner and can be heard gently encouraging his viewers with each stroke of the brush.
Ross notably hosted the US television show The Joy Of Painting in the 1980s and 1990s before he passed away in 1995 at the age of 52.
He is still well-known today, due in part to the internet, with his encouraging comments being used as memes and future generations being able to view footage online.
Carl is shown in the Paint trailer giving this wholesome and philosophical advice while surrounded by an army of supporters, both in person and adoringly watching him on TV.
He is eventually dethroned by a younger painter whose new public television programme becomes even more popular than his own.
Carl becomes upset and throws a bucket of paint over his own completed work in the trailer, as his adoring admirers shift away from him and towards new favourite Ambrosia.
Brit McAdams directs Paint, which also stars Michaela Watkins, Wendy McLendon-Covey, and Ciara Renee.
‘Carl Nargle, a local legend with a calming whisper of a voice, has been hosting his own painting programme on Vermont public television for decades,’ according to the official synopsis.
‘His art captivates and has attracted the attention of many women over the years, especially those who work at the station. But Carl is in a rut, and the station isn’t pulling in ratings.
‘When a new painter is hired to revitalize the channel, Carl’s own fears regarding his talents as a painter are brought to the forefront.’
The film, based on the 2010 script The Backlist, is set to hit UK theatres on April 28.
