Halloween ended with the release of the latest film in the popular horror franchise, but one fan wasn’t happy – so not happy, they’ve taken action.
The film concludes the trilogy, directed by David Gordon Green, that aimed to bring back Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) several generations after the masked villain’s original killing spree.
However, the latest installment has divided fans with some applauding the conclusion to the series, and others wishing it had gone in a different direction.
After seeing Halloween Ends, one cinemagoer was left so enraged they created a Change.org petition urging for the entire film to be reshot.
More than 8,000 people have already signed, surpassing its original 5,000 signature goal.
‘Halloween Ends was NOT a film that the Fans wanted! This was an Origins Story! The Corey Story! We deserve a movie worthy of Michael Myers & the Halloween Franchise!’ the petition’s creator, Dj Jones, wrote.
‘We love this Franchise whole heartily and this version of a Halloween Movie left us sad, mad, disappointed, and Infuriated.’
They go on to say that they want a film about ‘our apex predator’ and the ‘King of slasher movies’ Michael Myers, criticising Halloween Ends’ portrayal of the iconic masked killer.
‘This isn’t OUR MICHAEL MYERS! Our Killer is Strong, relentless, & unstoppable! Please right this wrong! We beg of you !!!’ They concluded.
Many people who signed the petition shared their reasons for doing so, echoing the sentiments of the petition’s creator.
‘I feel like I was promised one movie and got something completely different. Halloween Ends was absolutely terrible,’ Joe Jukofsky, from the United States, wrote.
Erin Rosenfeldt from Green Bay, Wisconsin, said: ‘I am very disappointed with Halloween Ends. I can’t even watch it again to try to understand why I was so excited to watch this pathetic, weak movie. 100% thumbs down!’
Kathleen Bailey from Chicago, Illinois, added: ‘Because 44 yrs of this franchise being my favorite, I want a well thought out well delivered ending and besides Jamie lee Curtis deserves a better ending for Halloween.’
The creator has today (October 21) shared an update on the petition’s progress, saying that they feel like a ‘protective older brother’ to the franchise.
‘These characters have become like family! This franchise is beloved by millions of us! And we are extremely protective and critical of it! Yes!’ they wrote.
‘We have set the bar pretty high but you guys did too! You led us down a fun thrilling exciting path which led us to a phenomenal epic finale that well didn’t deliver!! So are frustration comes from feeling jipped!’
They end the update by saying the criticism of the film comes from ‘a good place’ and that fans want an ending ‘worthy of [this] franchise’.
The film, released on October 14, saw Curtis and Courtney joined in the cast by Nick Castle, Andi Matichak, Kyle Richards, Judy Greer, Rohan Campbell, and Will Patton.
Original Halloween director John Carpenter was on hand to produce the sequel.
Curtis spoke about filming her last scenes for the upcoming movie, admitting that she wept while saying goodbye to the iconic character that she first played in 1978.
‘I realised that would be the last time I ever saw Laurie Strode,’ she told Total Film.
‘It was very powerful for me. I wept. David [Gordon Green] wept. We all recognized that moment, that it was the wrap for Laurie Strode and me.
‘And this community of artists who made these movies. It was a big deal.’
