Windex at the ready, because the first trailer for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 has arrived, and the gang is reuniting with their origins.
The renowned Portokalos family was originally presented to us in 2002, following the build-up to Toula’s (Nia Vardalos) frantic wedding day.
The third installment in the famous franchise will be published later this year, and will feature everyone gathering after the death of patriarch Costas ‘Gus’ Portokalos (Michael Constantine), as they achieve his dying desire with a massive reunion.
Of course, this being the Portokalos family, so nothing goes as planned, with a turbulent aircraft ride setting the tone for the remainder of their tour.
‘A lot has happened since my big fat Greek wedding…,’ Toula says in a voiceover. ‘My father passed away and his last wish was for us to visit his childhood village and reconnect with our roots, so we’re having a reunion.
‘And by we, I mean the whole family.’

They are hailed by locals shortly after landing and adjust to their new surroundings, including their unusual sleeping arrangements.
Toula discovers that it’s a lot tougher to corral her loved ones than she expected as she strives to adjust to her new role as the family’s leader following her father’s death.
Her daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris), is also probed about her own love life, indicating that nothing has changed in the family.
‘This is one reunion we’ll never forget,’ Toula warns, as a message on the screen adds: ‘It’s more than a journey. It’s more than a promise. It’s the event that brings everyone together.’
Following Michael Constantine’s death in September 2021 at the age of 94, this is the first film in the franchise.
Nia is also the writer and director, and the cast includes John Corbett, Elena Kampouris, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone, and Louis Mandylor.
The official synopsis reads: ‘From writer and director Nia Vardalos, the worldwide phenomenon My Big Fat Greek Wedding is coming back to cinemas with a brand-new adventure.
‘Join the Portokalos family as they travel to a family reunion in Greece for a heartwarming and hilarious trip full of love, twists and turns. Opa!’
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is released in US cinemas on September 8.
