The highly anticipated Wicked adaptation has officially released its full-length teaser, with main stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo welcoming us to Oz.
Wicked: Part 1, directed by Jon M. Chu, is planned to be released in November and features an all-star cast.
This includes popstar Ariana as Glinda the Good, West End classic Cynthia as Elphaba, Bridgerton‘s Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Oscar winner Michelle Yu as Madame Morrible, and Hollywood star Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz himself.
The Wizard of Oz origin narrative follows the odd friendship of Elphaba, a witch rejected because of her green skin, and Glinda, the most popular witch in school.
As Elphaba endures harassment from all sides, she forms up a strong romantic relationship with the handsome Fiyero.
The trailer begins with a glance at the notorious black witch’s cap, which will be a distinctive part of Elphaba’s future attire.
As the story progresses, we witness the agonising first encounter between Glinda and Elphaba, who are forced to share a room. Ariana perfectly captures Glinda’s exuberant charm as she works to convert Elphaba and make her ‘popular’.
Chu and the rest of the production team developed vibrant pinks, stunning rainbow hues, and jaw-dropping otherworldly settings, all of which were shot in London to make Oz more real than ever.
Fans just saw Ariana and Cynthia’s tear-filled reactions after learning they had landed the part in an emotional behind-the-scenes film. Both stars spoke openly about how much this film meant to them.
Kristin Chenoweth, Broadway’s original Glinda, approved of Arian’s casting, which is a childhood goal for him.
‘She’s going to put her own stamp on it. I’m so proud of her,’ Kristin said at the time. ‘I wanted her to do her Glinda. And that’s what she’s doing. I’m proud of her.’
Wicked: Part 1 arrives on the big screen on November 27, 2024.
