The new trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has given the biggest tease yet that Shuri (Letitia Wright) will become the new lead following the death of King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman).
Marvel has released a brand new two-minute trailer for the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, with Wright, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Winston Duke set to reprise their roles.
Boseman, who played the titular character, died in August 2020 following a private battle with colon cancer.
Director Ryan Coogler has already stated that the role of T’Challa aka Black Panther would not be recast with a new actor, but it appears the character’s sister Shuri could be stepping up to rule following her sibling’s death.
The teaser trailer ends with a mysterious character, who appears to be a woman, donning a new Black Panther suit fuelling speculation that Shuri, or even another female character such as Okoye (Gurira) or Nakia (Nyong’o), will become the new Black Panther.
Elsewhere, there’s also a glimpse of Wakanda’s new villain Namor (Tenoch Huerta), the underwater king of Atlantis.
M’Baku (Duke) is heard saying: ‘Only the most broken people can be great leaders.
‘His people do not call him general or king. They call him K’uk’ulkan, the feather serpent god. Killing him will risk eternal war.’
Shuri then warns: ‘He’s coming for the surface world.’
Fans are also introduced to the new Ironheart aka Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), an intellectual teen set to take after Iron Man and who will receive her own Disney Plus series after Wakanda Forever hits cinemas.
Teasing what’s to come, Coogler told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview: ‘The film deals with a lot of things, but one of them is foils — people who exist in contrast, but there’s a thread of similarity.
‘In this film, we get to see Shuri meet someone who has some things in common with her, but is also very, very different.’
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in cinemas on November 11.
