Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery takes the franchise away from the foggy Thrombie mansion of Massachusetts to more exotic locations.
In the sequel, Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc is invited to a murder mystery party at billionaire Miles Bron’s mansion, and, of course, the celebrations evolve into something more sinister. Like the original, Glass Onion places Blanc in a centre of memorable characters all suspected of foul play.
This murder mystery with many twists, turns, and unexpected surprises, was filmed in an array of locations – we’ve the lowdown on the lot.
Where is Knives Out: Glass Onion filmed?
The most significant difference from 2019’s original Knives Out is the location in which the film takes place. The first film is set almost entirely in Harlan Thrombey’s Massachusetts mansion after the mystery writer was killed by someone in his family, resulting in a hilarious ‘whodunit.’
Second time around with Glass Onion, the location is switched up, taking the franchise across the Atlantic to the shores of Europe.
One of the few Greek locations where Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was shot was Spetses, a Greek island in the Peloponnese, including the port of Dapia on the northeast shore of Spetses.

A large portion was filmed at Aman Resort’s Villa 20 (aka the Glass Onion, after the crew built the giant structure atop the villa roof), a luxury hotel near Porto Heli, Greece. This is home to Miles’ private mansion on his very own island.
Though according to production designer Rich Heinrichs, it wasn’t quite an island, but close enough.
‘It wasn’t an island. It was in the middle of the Peloponnesian peninsula, which would require us to depend on visual effects to make it look like one,’ he told Condé Nast Traveller.

‘It had this modernist kind of take on classical Greek architecture. And that felt right for Miles. He’s an inquisitive fellow, and he doesn’t necessarily have his own aesthetic, but knows he can pay a lot of money for someone who does.’
Was Knives Out: Glass Onion filmed anywhere else?
Aside from the scenes shot in Greece, Heinrichs also pointed out that the interiors of the atrium were ‘constructed on a stage in Serbia’.

The production rented a superyacht Aquarius to shoot the scenes in which the hosts are brought to the island.
Who is in the cast of Glass Onion?
And while we’re talking star locations, Rian Johnson’s highly anticipated sequel has quite the cast.
It includes Edward Norton, who plays the billionaire host of murder mystery weekend, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, and Janelle Monáe.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is currently streaming on Netflix.
