Lewis Capaldi is overjoyed, revealing that his new relationship is ‘doing extremely well.’
The 26-year-old performer is renowned for his sad, soul-searching, sometimes lonely ballads, such as his chart-topping single Someone You Loved.
But these heartfelt songs may soon be a thing of the past, as Lewis confesses he’s completely in love with his new partner, describing himself as ‘one happy chappy.’
Lewis spoke openly to Scott Mills on his forthcoming Radio 2 programme about his new ballad Wish You The Best, which is about being crushed by the breakdown of a relationship while the other person looks to be blissfully going on.
He joked: ‘All you say is, “good luck, I’m really happy for you,” but actually you are dying inside and want to tell them all the things you miss about them and why they should stay with you, so it’s just a really happy song for the summer.’
Lewis was then asked if he is in a rush to settle down, and while he didn’t answer that question directly, he revealed: ‘I have a girlfriend and that’s going really well.
‘I am a happy chappy, she’s a lovely lady. I feel good about everything.’
Lewis was first linked to actress Ellie McDowell in December, and the pair were later seen sharing a kiss at the audience of the Brit awards in February
Elsewhere in the long-ranging chat, Scott and Lewis discussed Lewis’ new documentary, with the songmaker joking that the first time he watched it he thought: ‘Do I die at the end of this because it’s so depressing in places.’
To which Scott jumped in sarcastically: ‘At least your songs are happy.’
Lewis has been upfront about his mental health as he prepares to release his second album, including his Tourette’s condition, which is regrettably only triggered by his performing.
‘It’s only making music that does this to me, otherwise I can be fine for months at a time, so it’s a weird situation,’ Lewis shared with The Times.
‘Right now, the trade-off is worth it, but if it gets to a point where I’m doing irreparable damage to myself, I’ll quit.’
He added: ‘I hate hyperbole but it is a very real possibility that I will have to pack music in.’
Scott Mills chats to Lewis Capaldi from 2pm Friday on BBC Radio 2 or BBC Sounds.
